The specifications of the 42PFL9900D are also very impressive, powered by Philips' Perfect Pixel HD engine, native 1080p resolution with fast 100Hz refresh rate to reduce motion blur, a brightness of 550cd/m2, a contrast ration of 1200:1 (8000:1 dynamic) and 176 degree viewing angle.

There is an internal digital tuner, a nice selection of three HDMI inputs, component, 2x scart, digital audio out and a USB connection for jpg photo viewing and mp3 playback.

I come home to find this TV in replacement for my older much smaller one. So there it is , My partner has gone out and brought the TV he has been wanting for weeks. With out my knowledge. The Philips 42PF9831 is one of the best Large screen LCD televisions available at this moment in time. Apart from being able to show off the superb full Ambilight Technology, it also benefits from the excellent philips technology Pixel Plus 3. This HD Ready TV is capable of displaying upto 720p resolution, and has a contrast ratio of 4500:1. The contrast ratio on any TV is the difference between light and dark colours. So for example any picture that is supposed to be black will be black, on tvs with a low contrast ratio will look more of a grey colour. This is the worst TV on the planet, I have it 12 months and I hate it. It has been back to the factory because of software and speaker buzzing constantly.
