Advantages: Great picture and sound quality, freeview included, brilliant for sports, looks stylish
Disadvantages: Not the best movie TV, sound is quite quiet
Over the past few years, Samsung has built a fine reputation making great LCD tvs. In the past 2 years they have combined great picture quality and sound quality with stunning looks. The 26 inch size means you could use it within most rooms; your main living room, second family room, bedroom, or even as a kitchen tv.
I will start off with the looks. This new model from Samsung really does look great. The silver line below the black shiny casing is now becoming a trademark among the Samsung LCD tvs, and looks fantastic. Underneath the screen lies a big round power button, that looks rather lovely. Altogether this TV looks very stylish.
The picture quality is above the average here. The colours look great on this HD ready set and the contrast is excellent. The fluid motions mean that this TV like many other LCDs is probably better for watching football and other sports than a plasma screen. This TV will not be as good for watching movies as a plasma though, but will match one for normal TV shows.
The sound quality is very good and keeps up with the standards set before with previous TVs from Samsung. Unfortunately though the TV does not reach volume levels that are that loud. So if you intend to use this for many movies I suggest you invest in a surround sound set to pair up with it, which will improve the sound quality heavily.
Included inside this TV is a digital freeview tuner, which gives many more channels with out needing an extra box to go with it. The quality of the tuner is great unlike some other freeview boxes and picks up all the channels with perfect quality. Having a freeview box included here means that during the digital switchover nothing will go wrong.
The TV comes with a stand, that looks great with the TV. But I suggest that you invest a little bit extra (around £30-40 as this is not a large TV) on a wall mount, as this really does look fantastic and also successfully saves space. Because of the integrated freeview box you will not need any more than two wires, one for the tuner and one for the power, these can easily be inserted through the walls to a plug socket with the help of a professional in 2 hours or so.
I really do think that the Samsung LE-26R7BD is a great TV that can be used in any room you desire around the house. And at £420 it's not bad value either. I am giving it 5 stars, brilliant.
Summary: A very flexible and well priced TV
