A very high quality TV, which should now be very good value-for-money

An excellent TV, which I have had for a year and it is still going strong. The display colours are sharp and true to life, as you would expect with Samsung technology. The sound is also very good for day-to-day watching, but when there's a good DVD on, I tend to plug it into my hi-fi, especially since it is so simple to do. With a games console, I have also been able to experience the display in HD, which is truly impressive.

In terms of appearance, it cannot be faulted. The unit is thin, well proportioned and housed in a high-polished black casing that is understated and gives it a high-quality feel. The remote control is made out of the same material, too. While this is unforgiving of fingerprints, they're hardly a concern on the remote and the TV comes with a special blue cloth, which you can use to get rid of these (and clean dust off the screen) without fear of leaving scratch marks.

Connectivity is not an issue with this TV: there are more than enough scart and HDMI connections for a DVD player and games console, and rigging the sound is as simple as plugging a 35mm jack into the side of the TV and the other end into my hi-fi. It is also intuitive to do and there was no need to resort to the manual.

After a year, I have noticed a few areas which could be improved, and some which I am very happy with. Most pleasing is that the TV never feels more than gently warm, so I'm confident that it will continue to work well for years to come without any components becoming fried. In terms of potential improvements, it takes maybe 3-5 seconds from standby to displaying anything on the screen and there is about a half-second of "thinking time" for switching channels.

While there are of course full HD TVs on the market nowadays, that means that the price of HD-ready TVs such as this one are lower. So, unless you absolutely must have the latest technology, this TV will deliver a great picture at a very good price.
