Advantages: Great picture and sound quality and it looks stunning .
Disadvantages: A flimsy remote control.
I have recently due to an enormous stroke of luck been able to relegate my 32 inch widescreen Sony to the bedroom in favour of my shiny new 37 inch Samsung. I entered a reverse auction on a radio station and won this Samsung LE37A457, the auction worked on the basis of the lowest unique bid would win the TV and my bid of 309p won me the telly, yes that's three hundred and nine pence (£3.09)!!!
I had actually been very happy with my Sony TV but you don't realise how outdated something can be after only 18 months till you come face to face with a newer model. The clarity of the picture on my new Samsung TV is leaps and bounds better than the Sony I loved so much.
When the guy from Samsung delivered this TV he told us that it would better the Sony because of its contrast ratio of 10000: 1 and the fact that it had a viewing angle of 178°. I have to admit all of that went right over my head but he explained it a bit to me and I gathered in what he was saying eventually.
The biggest benefit would seem to be the viewing angle because with the older Sony you had to be almost straight on to see the screen and the colours the way they were supposed to look but you can be almost anywhere in the room and still get a perfect view of the superior Samsung.
This television is 'high definition ready' which means it has the ability to display high definition signals with the addition of a separate HD receiver. If you have ever watched anything in HD you will know as I now do that it really does make a difference, The level of detail is astonishing considering how good TV pictures are these days anyway.
The other thing this Samsung has over my trusted Sony is its sound quality, the Sony really needed a good set of surround sound speakers with it or the sound was a real let down but the Samsung has SRS TruSurround, which produces a surround sound effect and offers brilliant sound clarity from just the built in speakers.
This TV also has very good looks going for it, it is in piano black which gives it a sleek and very modern appearance and it looks excellent on my living room wall, it also matches with my PC monitor which is also in piano black. This TV can actually double up as a PC monitor but I will not be using it to that effect.
KEY FEATURES
Brightness - 550cd/m2
Contrast ratio - 10000: 1
Visible screen size (measured diagonally) - 94cm
Scart sockets - 3
Dimensions - H65.8 x W91.7 x D30cm (including stand)
I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone looking for a new widescreen and although you will obviously not get it for the £3.09 that I paid for it, after some research I can tell you that it can be found for as little as £549 on Amazon and it does appear to be sold everywhere with the stand included as it was when it was delivered to me.
I do not use the stand but rather prefer to have it wall mounted, the brackets for this are not included but can be purchased for a little over £20.
