I got this TV about 9 months ago from Currys at £1100.00 with the vouchers i recieved from a What Ever Happens warrenty as my old TV died. This TV is in are bedroom on a wall (you need to buy a wall bracket seperate) and plends in as the style of the TV is quite good and modern, at first look you think the TV has a black surround, but when you look closer you can see that there is a red winey colour through it, didn't notice this in the shop when i was buying it , but it's not a bad touch as it gives that more modern look to it, another thing i didn't notice when buying this TV was that you have at the bottom of the TV under the SAMSUNG logo a source, volume, standby, channels and menu touch sensitive panel, no buttons, you just touch with your finger the volume, channel etc and that selects what you want to do.
One thing i found if you like to turn your TV of completely you are going to have to unplug your TV everytime as there is no power switch at all, your TV will stay in standby mode all of the time unless you pull the plug.
An added bonus you get freeview TV builtin, which is easy to install as its automatic, also on the righthand side of this TV there is a slot for a freeview topup card which is good, i haven't used this feature so can't comment.
There is plenty of connections, from the back you have, 3 HDMI ports, 2 SCART ports, 1 PC VGA port, 1 DV AUDIO IN port, 7 COMPONENT ports, 1 DIGITAL OPTICAL AUDIO OUTPUT port, and a LAN port for your internet connection. On the righthand side of the TV you have, 3 AV COMPONENT ports, 1 HDMI port, 2 USB ports, and 1 FREEVIEW TOPUP CARD slot, you can see there is alot there for eveyone to be happy with.
The remote control that is supplied is easy enough to use and also has a light feature were the buttons light up in the dark, although changing input channels can be a bit annoying as you have to go through each one on the screen to select which one you want.
Now to the image quality, i can say the that the quality is very good, it is sharp and the blacks are very deep and the colours are very natural. When watching standard definition TV, it is good, but when you see an HD broadcast or watch a blu-ray movie, then you see the quality this TV produces, it is full 1080p screen so good for blu-ray movies and has 100hz motion plus which is good in some cases but can take what your watching and make it unnatural looking, you can easily go to the settings menu and disable this option or customise whatever suits you. If you like gaming there is a games mode which makes the picture look very clear and stand out.
The sound from the TV is a let down as it sounds very tiny even when you turn it up it still sounds low.
Going to the menu and setting up, can be tricky as there is alot of settings to maxamise your picture and sound quality.
This TV can also be link to the internet using a broadband connection or by buying a Samsung wireless dongle, the advantages of connecting this TV to the internet include, yahoo wigets which come up on your TV screen like, weather, news, flickr and you can even connect to youtube and watch youtube videos on your screen.
Now about the media of this TV, well on the rightside you have 2 usb ports, 1 is for updating your TVs system and the other is for your media, you can put music, photos, and even divx videos onto a usb drive and plug it into your TV and it will play these no problem, but does not support MKV video files at this time.
Well i think i have covered about everything i can think off, so yeah i would defintely recommend this TV to anyone as its classy and has a great picture quality, along with added builtin freeview and access to youtube.
The decision to buy a TV of this size is huge to the variety and relatively similar prices ranges when you reach this size, but I can say this TV is brilliant. The TV is black but has the Samsung "rose" finish so if you look at it from the right angle or with the sunlight through the sides you can see the red effect. The TV stand is very easy to remove so that you can put this on the wall and the difference between this and the 7 series samsung is that you don't have the 2 light sources coming down from the bottom of the TV. The TV comes with 4 HDMI ports which is great, we haven't used all of the HDMI ports yet but have got a PS3 in one and V+ box in one, there is a cable in the 3rd so we can put the laptop up to it as well and looking at new surround systems will soon fill the 4th which we couldn't do if we had bought another brand as most only come with 3 HDMI ports.
The remote control is easy to use and has a "light bulb" button on it which will light the remote in the dark so that you can see all the numbers etc. which really appeals to all the men that have seen it. The one downside is changing between the different inputs if you like us fill all the ports before putting it on the wall so that you are not constantly taking it off and on as it takes time to go through the source button and have to use the menu button to go to the source is easier. Would advise changing the names on these so you remember what has been plugged into each port. I think its becoming more standard on remotes nowadays but the battery compartment has a piece of rubber/plastic attached so that you can't loose the battery cover unless this but breaks.
I can't comment on what the sound quality is like as we have plugged it in to the surround system. The picture quality however, is great and you can tell the difference between the HD and non HD channels and DVDs. The TV comes with different modes Game, Sports, Cinema which do make a difference and make things easy to see depending on what you are watching. The TV is easy to set up though if you have to use the manual good luck as its not the easiest in the world to read through and I found trial and error was a much easier way to sort out any issues.
One downside to the TV is the screen surround which if you look carefully appears to have been scratched. Upon checking this is something that the TVs come with and can be sent back to Samsung to have a new screen surround on or new TV but unless you look closely this can't be noticed unless you live with someone who obessess over these things.
I would recommend this TV but I would also recommend searching around for the best price as we found that different shops and online stores varied so much in price.
