Samsung 3D TV what a bargain!
Member Name: iandunning
Advantages: Picture, sound, connectivity, classy looks.
Disadvantages: The extra cost of glasses, the dust problem.
I was tempted to buy a 3D TV though I most certainly was not tempted by the price of them so I did as most other people do and wait for the price to drop, that is until I saw the price of this Black Beauty. We are talking of a classy 3D ready TV for not very much more than the price of some other manufacturer's HD TVs.
I must admit to being a little doubtful about Samsung TVs as we have had two portables which were returned faulty but I believe that if a product is going to go wrong it usually happens quite soon after buying so I can rely on the warranty.
So what about the actual set? Well seeing it is a TV I will start on the picture which has startling levels of specifications for this price, which most other manufacturers simply can't match, which manifests itself in a superb picture in all disciplines (Analogue, Digital, HD and 3D) even though it relies on a backlight as opposed to the latest LED technology which would explain it's rather thick chassis though this is not a real problem.
Though the Samsung does use this dated technology there is little evidence of any blurring, which can be an issue especially in the 3D mode.
I mentioned the 3D mode so what is it like? The short answer is very good and I am very pleased with it though walking into a room in which the inhabitants are watching 3D is like walking into a Roy Orbison convention. Yes this TV's, and every other 3D TV's, achilles heel, those glasses. OK I knew what I was buying so there can be no complaints from me about wearing them, but I can complain about the fact that the TV is only supplied with one set and extras are quite expensive. I suppose it's like buying a car and it is only supplied with one seat, the rest are extras.
Sound wise the TV is very good with no major issues and will withstand very loud levels of sound with very little distortion or interference, unlike the previous portables we owned. The set comes with various sound modes to suit different types of programme types.
One area where this TV really shines is in the area of connectivity. This Tv has more connections than Max Clifford's mobile. It has 4 HDMI slots alone and it can be connected to the usual blue ray players, Sky boxes etc and also it can be connected to a computer.
In the looks department this TV is indeed a Black Beauty in piano black with a transparent edging which looks classy from all angles and impresses all who gaze at it. All very nice but with one major drawback, the thing is a dust collector and can collect more dust in a day than our vacuum cleaner can in a week! One nice little touch on the remote is a control to light up the buttons so there is no possibility of going to turn up the sound and turning over your favourite programme. The remote control has all the buttons placed well and using it is very intuitive, in fact I haven't yet read the manual.
So do I recommend this TV? Yes, most definitely though I can't award 5 stars due to the dust problem and the fact that you need to pay out more money if more glasses are required. I would award it a well deserved 4.5 stars|if I could. All in All, well done Samsung for pricing this TV so that 3D is relatively affordable.
Summary: This Tv is a good all round performer at a very good price and I can thoroughly recommend it.
