I've been needing a new TV in my bedroom around my dad's for a while now, and finally decided to go out and get one as a Christmas present (yes I know it's early) but my current one kind of broke on me. We decided, after looking around for a while to get the 22" 5 Series, Samsung UE22D5000 LED Backlit LCD TV for £229.99. I've dealt with and used Samsung TV's before so i was expecting high hopes from this model and for it to not let me down.

-Un-Boxing-
After finally getting it home, we laid out the box on the floor and opened it up. The TV and all the cables were nicely secured in plastic wrapping to help protect from dust, scratches and other forms of damage. The screen is held in place via a white foam mould to stop the TV from moving around and becoming damaged during movement and storage. The leads including AV cables and power cable were securely tied in a plastic cable to stop them from bending and becoming damaged. Unfortunately there was no HDMI Cable supplied however these can be bought easily along with the TV. The remote control is also protected in a plastic bag, lined with bubble wrap in its own section of the foam mould to also avoid it from moving freely in the box. Also included in the box is set up instructions to give you the best picture and sound quality, general set up and installation of the TV, warranty information and phone numbers booklet, accessories booklet and general TV set up manual. Finally the TV screen its self is lined with bubble wrap just to give it that extra padding and protection.

-Set up-
After un boxing the TV and placing it on my side you can instantly see its sleek dark grey/black enclosure design and clean crisp screen. The size of the of TV measures at 52.2cm x 37.7cm x 14.5cm with the stand making it 22" in a diagonal size and being rather slimming. When setting up the TV i plugged in the power supply first., which simply plugs into the back of the TV and is hid out of the way of sight from a front view of the TV so no ugly power cable is seen. The TV uses a AC 230V (50/60Hz) adaptor. The power consumption of the TV in standby/sleep has been measured at approximately 0.3 Watts. After this i plugged in the included SCART adaptor with minimal fuss and it just easily fitted in at the back of the TV.

After connecting the cables i turned the TV on. Using the remote control i navigated through the detailed settings menu of the TV. Depending on your TV viewing method there is different settings for what you may have, however the settings does have a built in digital TV tuner, DVB-C, DVB-T. This also comes with Teletex and an electronic programme guide.

After browsing quickly through the settings (I recommend reading the manual if you don't fully understand setting up a TV for your best viewing performance). There are many options for languages, standby times, auto turn off and power saver options, parental locks, picture in picture set up, contrast, brightness and saturation settings plus many many more options.

-Display Information-
The diagonal size of the screen is 22" widescreen with a TFT active matrix. It boasts a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and a 1080p (Full HD Ready) display format. Because this is a LCD TV it incorporates LCD backlight technology using a LED backlight. Finally it also has a variety of different display modes for various viewing modes, these include: On/off timer, Anynet Plus, Game Mode, HyperReal Engine, ConnectShare Movie, wide colour Enhancer Plus, Digital noise filter, Eco flower.

-Audio Information-
The output mode for sound on this TV is stereo with the option of surround sound mode and a variety of digital audio formats including: DTS digital output, Dolby Digital plus output, Dolby pulse output. It has a 2 speaker system set up with SRS Theatre sound HD sound effects. The speaker system consists of 2 x right/left channel speakers - built in - 3 Watt. This gives a total power consumption of 6 watts. Finally there are a range of features, including Down-firing speaker and auto volume leveller (AVL). At first i was using the stereo speakers built into either side. My room size is aprox 7m x 5m and when only the sound is not even half way it provides and exceptional sound quality about as crystal clear as this picture its self. It has a simple lower and increase volume button on the TV and remote control, to change the volume.

-Connections-
Located on the back of the TV is the connections hub which boasts a massive variety of different connection types to allow you to set up your perfect system with use on this TV. The connections included on the TV are:

-Final Overview and opinion-
If you're looking for a sleek and stylish LCD TV that supports a variety of viewing modes including for gaming HD movies and Blue-ray movie viewing along with exception sound quality and clear crisp picture quality then this is the TV for you. At only £229.99 this TV is exceptional Value for money and can't be beaten for its viewing and sound quality and its connection types. Boasting a massive selection of different connection types you will be able to create the most powerful system and adapt to your own viewing needs easily with this product. Using the connection hub located at the back of the TV and the powerful settings menu built into the TV.

I have never been able to get closer to the films and TV i watch before this new Samsung Television. I can't believe how crisp and clear the picture is before any set up has been even run or any settings changed. So even if your a novice to setting up a TV system you already have an out of the box outstanding picture quality. I highly recommend this TV for your home viewing. However if you want this for a home cinema i recommend getting a bigger size a 32" model of this TV costs around £100 - £120 more depending on where you buy. Highly recommended!!
