Samsung 55" Smart Television UE55ES8000
Member Name: rji0907
Advantages: Excellent quality, does everything you could possibly need a television to do - and more!!
Disadvantages: The price!!
I needed something from our local Curry's just after Christmas and my partner drove me up there. As soon as he said the words 'I'll come with you', I knew it would end up with a needless purchase - and I was right! Did we need a new television? No! Did we end up purchasing a new television anyway? Yes!
My partner had seen on show at another store the new Samsung televisions which feature a voice recognition system and of course, we just had to have one (!). We do look a good sized television and after some deliberations with the staff in Currys, we went for their UE55ES8000.
This is a 55" television and basically features everything you could possibly want in a television. I am not overly technical so I was concerned that many of the features would go to waste and we wouldn't get full usage from the television, but it has actually proven to be really easy to use.
This is a 3D,Full HD television. This really is the height of modern technology where televisions are concerned. The television has the most minimal frame with the tiniest chrome coloured frame surrounding the screen. It is that thin, it is barely noticeable and really makes the screen stand out. You get two pairs of Samsung 3D glasses included in the box, as well as all the necessary leads, controllers, batteries and instructions.
Our previous television was still a really modern television which I thought was really good, but it isn't until you have this one that you can really see the difference. The picture quality is like nothing I have ever seen before, and the sound quality is just as good. The colours are bright and vibrant with a real crisp, sharp picture and you can make out the tiniest detail, especially when watching a programme or film in HD. Considering the size of the screen, you don't get any distortion whatsoever and personally, I think this is the best television we have owned by a long way and I can't see any other manufacturer having a better quality television than this.
Quality like this though does come at a price and we paid £1799.00 for this television and this was on offer! The original price of the television was £2099.00 and we only got it cheaper as it was in the January sales and we were also offered a 'buy now, pay later' offer.
Although this television looks the business, that wasn't the aspect of this television that attracted my partner to it. This television has a voice recognition system in it which means that you can control the television by voice commands and you can also control it by hand gestures too. I was a little sceptical by this but the system actually works quite well. Personally, I think it is far easier to use a button to turn the television on and off or change channels, but my partner and son both use the voice control aspect as they think it is 'cool', and my son especially loves showing it off to his mates.
To use this, you simply use the enclosed remote control. You press the voice button and talk into it, using specific commands that the television will understand. Generally this works quite well, though sometimes if you don't speak clearly enough, you will have to say the command more than once for the television to understand your control. It is a little unnecessary, but it is rather clever! I haven't had as much luck with the hand gestures though. We haven't really persevered with this, so maybe we aren't doing something correctly (such as sitting in the correct place), but either way, it hasn't worked for me.
You really can do everything on this television, including using the internet. You can download certain 'apps' onto the television just like on a smart phone - hence why this is called a 'Smart' television. You can use social media, download apps, order films and basically use the internet as you would with a laptop, by connecting it to your wi-fi.
The initial set up of the television is really simple and quick. You simply plug it in and follow the instructions on the screen. The process is simple and you can't really go wrong with it. Neither myself or my partner are very technical and we did it first time without any hiccups.
Overall, this really is the business when it comes to televisions. The quality of the television is amazing and it does everything you need it to and more. It looks amazing and has fantastic sound and picture quality as well as allowing you full internet access. The voice control aspect, although not needed, is rather clever and adds a bit of fun to the television, at the same time as encouraging laziness!
This television isn't cheap but it is a fantastic television and I would go as far as saying it is the best on the market at the moment so therefore it comes with a high recommendation from me.
Summary: A fabulous television from the Samsung range
