I bought this Sharp LC-42X20E last year and am extremely happy with its looks, and more importantly its performance.
A sleek black elegant border and slim design shows off the picture quality to its best effect without any distractions.
I have seen a lot of LCD screens in the shops but when I saw this one it just blew me away with its picture quality.
Setting it all up was easy but the settings for the colour, contrast etc were far too high for my liking and after adjusting these controls to my satisfaction the picture was outstanding. Crisp, clear and vibrant.
It boasts a reasonable 10000-1 contrast ratio which basically means there are 10,000 shades between the whitest white and blackest black. The higher the contrast ratio the better quality of picture.
Also another good feature is the de-juddering application. When this is set to on then it keeps any blurring or juddering of the picture to an absolute minimum. Also included is an automatic light adjustment which senses the light (or dark) in the room you are viewing the television and adjusts the back light of the TV automatically to give you the best picture quality at all times. Excellent!
It comes with 3 HDMI cables which gives you plenty of scope for all those High Defenition appliances out there.
The television is FULL HD compatible. That is to say it can show the full high definition at maximum resolution of 1080p. You must be aware of this because you can buy 42inch screens like this for a few hundred pounds cheaper but despite the claims of being "HD ready" you will probably find that they only have 720P instead of the full and proper 1080p, which means that viewing tv's in that lower 720p will not be as sharp and clear as a tv like this one with full 1080p.
This make also comes with a built-in digital tuner (DVB-T) and there are many settings and tweaks available to suit your viewing and audio preferences.
Sound quality is superb and crystal clear.
Replaced my Samsung 32" 1080i model with the Sharp. There really is no comparison when it comes to picture & sound quality, the Sharp is a huge improvement. The contrast and colour depth on the Sharp are exceptional. When I chose this model I was looking at the HD demonstrations on all the various makes, and the Sharp stood out above all the others. You actually thought you could be looking at the real scene. Even on digital TV broadcasts the picture excels.I would recommend this TV without reservation. The connectivity is also good with 3 HDMI, 2 Scart, component etc.
