I bought this as my first LCD flatscreen tv a couple of years ago after having a Hitachi cathode ray 26 ( sounds ancient ) for about 10 years. The Hitachi had a very clear picture as did a lot of the older TV's and I did not want to buy a new one just for the sake of having a modern looking tv.
I think I paid about £400 for it and it had not been out long so should have dropped a lot , I could also have bought a non internet one at that time for about £280 which was a bit annoying.
Sony have a good name for TV's so I started looking at them in the shop and reading online - I decided to go for an internet tv wich I could connect to my laptop or watch youtube / BBCI player on, this tv does all that and more. It has an internet button that you press which slowly loads up , and providing you have connected your modem to the back of the tv you have a range of internet options , but no browser just set pages.
The picture is HD upscaled to 1080, which is about as good as most people need or expect at this time I think. The colours and contrast can be played with and different scenes selected like cinema / graphics /game. I tend to leave that and go via options and picture where you can spend all day !
I've just put it on and remembered that I use the twin picture function a lot - at first for some reason I could not get it working, but I now have an HD freeview plugged into it and a Hitachi recorder connected - this affects what you watch on the twin picture. If they are not turned on the picture will be blank. I normally have the radio on in the corner while something boring is on then switch back to the programme.
You can also connect your pc up to it and select it via the input button on the remote, then the tv becomes a monitor. I connected up my laptop when the screen on the laptop stopped working, this was very useful. It sometimes changes the screen resolution for some reason if you unplug it or the tv gets a software update.
The remote is sleek and stylish like the tv and overall I am very happy after about 3 years use. A few things I have tried to get working with it have not worked even sony products as they were maybe to old.
I have my tv connected up to a sony amplifier and surround sound speakers which sounds good. When you listen to the tv through just the tv speakers it is clear, but has no depth bass or power at all, it is an important point as it changes the whole experience.
