Advantages: Value for money, great picture
Disadvantages: 720p rather than 1080p
When I decide to buy a TV, I normally undertake a fair bit of research first. This time around, I wanted a product which was, a) affordable, and b) featuring a decent picture. I wasn't too concerned if it didn't have the most modern features - it just had to be a solid, all round, not too pricey performer.
The result of this research led me to the Sony Bravia KDL-32P3032.
The TV itself looks fairly good - it isn't stunning in appearance like many of the Samsung models - but it's not ugly.
The downside of this particular TV is its 720p rather than 1080p High Definition output. This doesn't really bother me, as it's only 32" - anything bigger and i'd want the full-def version, but it's difficult to see the difference between 720 and 1080 at this screen size - so i'm not overly concerned.
This TV delivers a solid all round performance. The built in freeview offers a fairly good picture quality, although I personally find the picture a little dark - you can obviously increase the brightness and backlight levels, but this can make the black levels a little grey. The contrast settings also have to be set quite high to get the most out of the tv (by default it is set to around 92%)
The Freeview Electronic Program Guide (EPG) could have been a little better in its presentation - it's a bit small and bland - but it does do its job effectively.
Plug in a blu-ray or other high-def device via one of the two HDMI cable and you'll really see what this model can do. Blacks are rich, and colours are vibrant and accurate. For the price it's a must have.
The technical features are listed below
Screen: 32in 16:9
Sound System: Nicam
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Contrast Ratio: 1800:1 (8,000 dynamic)
Brightness: 450cd/m2
Other Features: BRAVIA Image Processing Engine, Theatre Sync.
Sockets: 2 HDMI, 2 SCART, Component Video, Composite Video, PC input.
The KDL-32P3032 is an excellent product for the price (just over £400), and as such is highly recommended by me.
P.s this is a heavily updated version of the review I wrote recently on amazon.co.uk
