Advantages: Great picture
Disadvantages: Needs surround sound
I decided to upgrade to a Sony V5500 from a very cheap Mirai flat screen TV. I had been recommended Sony TVs by family and friends alike, so shopped around a little to see what was on the market at the time. I found this TV in lots of different stores, ranging from £500- £600. I found an ex- display one in Richer Sounds for £449.95, and although it was an ex- display, I still had a year's manufacturers warranty on the TV. Because of the cost, I also took out an extra warranty through Warranty Direct.
Anyway, on to the review...!
I bought this TV in February 2010. I chose it through recommendations, but also because I am a fan of Sony themselves. I bought the 32" version solely for the fact that my living room isn't the biggest in the world, nor is my bank balance! I think the next size up is a good £100 more, plus it is quite a bit bigger. I think the 32" is perfect and certainly big enough.
You can play this TV in Analog and Digital. Digital has in built Freeview.
The Aspect Ratio is 16:9, but this can also be changed.
To the rear, there are four HDMI scarts, a USB port and other ports for surround sound.
The TV is black, and comes with a black stand that is actually very stable. The TV swivels to the left and right.
I would recommend getting a surround sound system with this TV. The speakers are very standard, and you have to turn the bass right up to get any sort of good sound effect. However, they are by no means rubbish, just very standard.
This TV is very easy to set up. Programming Freeview is very quick (depending on your area) as is Analog (although I NEVER use this!)
The remote control is actually pretty attractive (as far as remote controls go!) and has a link on it to Theatre- if you have surround sound.
The picture goes to 1080p, which I believe if full HD. The picture quality is absolutely fantastic; on channels which broadcast in HD, the picture is crystal clear and sharp. On other channels, the picture is still very good, even if not in HD. You do need to be sitting about a metre away from the TV otherwise it looks a little blurry.
I would definitely recommend this TV to others.
Summary: Another great Sony product; lovely picture and good features!
