Having previously bought a Sony LCD TV with built in blu-ray, I decided to purchase this model for the bedroom. Although, I was generally more impressed with this model, there were a few disappointing new features.
Firstly, this television has internet connectivity with access to on demand services such as BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, YouTube and Lovefilm. Additionally, there is access to Skype, although an additional camera is required. A really useful feature of this tv is that an app can be downloaded so that the tv can be controlled via a smartphone, however, internet connection on both the phone and television is required. The television is also DLNA compatible so you can access your media from your computer.
This tv can also act as a DVR by attaching a hard drive to the television, meaning you can live record your programs. However, you can not record one channel whilst watching another as there is only a single tuner in the TV. The new toolbar on the TV can make it difficult to find the settings that you are looking for, this is my only problem with an otherwise brilliant tv.
I am a big fan of Sony and this television did not disappoint. It is very stylish; it is extremely slim and the metal trim at the bottom is a nice touch. The stand is substantial although the TV could wobble a little bit if confronted with a curious toddler! The picture quality is great and I think the sound quality is extremely good. Some TV's can be very 'tinny' but the bass on this one is quite substantial. I purchased a Wifi dongle which plugs into a USB port in the side as I wanted to use the television to watch Lovefilm. I have had no problems whatsoever linking this television to the internet and now also have a Now TV box attached which works perfectly. My only complaint is that I wish Wifi could have been built into the unit as the dongle was quite an expensive addition.
