Advantages: Clear picture, Good sound
Disadvantages: Picture distortion when playing DVDs (see opinion), Occasional purity problems
I own a Thomson 28VK25US widescreen TV (sorry, couldn't work out how to add a new product). I'm currently experiencing picture distortions when playing DVDs. What happens is when I play a DVD containing a scene involving rapid flashes of light e.g. explosions, lightning, etc, the picture distorts and rolls for a second but then returns back to normal. This even happens in super-slow motion! This is very annoying when watching movies containing a lot of these scenes e.g. any of the Batman movies, Star Wars and basically any type of "shoot-em-up" movie. You may be thinking that the problem lies with the DVD player or SCART lead but I've tried 4 different models of DVD player and 3 different SCART leads and they all do the same thing. I also found a chat group on the Internet where other people have been experiencing the same problem with the same model of TV. When I contacted Thomson about this they assured me that it was not a problem with this model of their TVs. I got Mastercare (Currys) to take a look at it and they took the TV away for 3 weeks. When I got it back, nothing had changed so apparently they can't fix it either. So my advice to anyone thinking about buying a Thomson TV is this: take the TV home, connect it up to your DVD Player and watch a DVD containing scenes like I described above - Batman Returns and The Phanton Mentace are particularly bad. If picture distortion happens, then return the TV immediately and get another make. If you don't plan to use a DVD player with the TV then there are no problems at all. The picture is clear and the sound is great.

delawney - 14.11.02 Hiya and welcome to dooyoo ;)
Sorry to hear you've got such a niggly problem with the TV - I think it would drive me up the wall!
Re: adding items - dooyoo have currently left the link off as they can't add items at the moment - they've recently updated the site (whole other story!). I'm assured the link will be back soon. When it is you can email dooyoo and ask them to move this op (I'll try and remember but I read a lot of ops!).
Have fun here ;) |
