A decent value HDTV - if only the sound matched up to the picture quality

I have extremely mixed feelings on our Toshiba TV. It has some very good features and yet is disappointing in others.

Now I must confess I'm not the most technical TV user so I'm not going to give you too many technical specifications and stats - I'm sure there's loads of websites you can go to for that. This is more about how I've found the TV as a reasonably savvy but non expert user!

Basic specs: It's a 32" screen, LCD HDTV.

Set up/installation: My husband did this. He's pretty tech-savvy but by no means an engineer and he said it was pretty simple and straightforward, so I'll take his work for it.

The look: It's black, with nice smooth lines and an unfussy, stylish look. Sits nicely in the corner of our living room.

Visual quality: no complaints here. The screen quality is very good, and yes you really do notice the difference with HD when you stick a blu-ray disc on!

Sound: quite disappointing here. We notice a real lack of clarity on certain broadcasts, particularly films. I know there can be a big variation in sound clarity in some productions but the speakers just aren't too great and can result in a muffled sound making it hard to distinguish some dialogue. This is my biggest everyday complaint with this TV.

Ease of use: nice and simple. Pretty much everything is by remote control, which I find very intuitive and easy. There's an off switch on the TV itself, so no excuse for just dumping it on stand by!

Connections: now this is another area I don't really get involved in. However, we currently have an X box, a PS3 and a Wii (gadget freaks, surely not!) with no problems.

Reliability: another issue here. We've only had the TV a couple of years and had a problem with it a couple of months back. I don't know exactly what caused it but the screen went black and needed fixing (cost us £50 from a man round the corner!)

All in all we're reasonably pleased with our TV, I think it was good value for the price we paid. But next time I'll be looking a bit more at sound quality too - whether that's the TV speakers themselves or a bit of home cinema action!

      Very helpful

Does exactly what it should, plus a bit more

I purchased this TV over a year ago now. In that time its picture quality has never come into question. Its sleek looks would look good in any living room. It has 3 hdmi ports which I havent come across on many other tv's allowing me to connect my ps3, sky hd box and blu-ray player all directly into it. Its a simple tv to operate. All the buttons on the remote make sense and are located exactly where you would expect. Its easily wall mountable with universal wall brackets.
Its great to plug a cam corder or laptop into for whatever purpose.
Even comes with a free screen wipe which has stood the test of time and to this day i currently use.
The only fault i have ever found is perhaps a lag on the remote from when you press a button to when the tv actually responds. Apart from this I would give an 8 out of 10 and would highly recommend.
