I am not really sure whether to promote this item or to slate it! In certain aspects the TV has performed well- It has great picture quality and lives up to its "FULL HD" status. However after around a year of owning the TV the sound suddenly stopped working altogether so at the moment I have had to plug a speaker into the microphone slot and have to turn it up really loud just to hear it! On top of this the TV takes several attempts to react to HD cables that are plugged in to the slots , it takes turning it on and off several times to get it to react to my Xbox! So if you want a cheapish HD Tv to work for around a year then go for it because it was excellent for that period but over time several things on the TV have started to break for no reason.
My boyfriend and i got our first flat together on february this year, we decided as a moving in present we would buy ourselves a brand new flat screen TV.
Wes hopped around and decided on this 40 Toshiba Tv. we bought it brand new at our local tesco for £420.99, that was in feb 2010 and i have since seen it in there for £389. it came with 12 months warranty as standard and we took it straight home.
We unwrapped it straight away and connected everything up. we were really impressed with the Tv.
The Tv itself has a lovely shine to it and the base is really sturdy. It moves from side to side so you can have it at an angle and twist it left to right. The small toshiba sign on the front lights up when the TV is on which i thought was a really nice feature.
It was very easy to install and didnt take long at all!
On the right hand side it has all the relevent buttons for the channels and volume and more for AV channels etc if you have a playstation or anything else plugged in through the tv.
It has a cable slot so we could plug in our HD cabel through the playstion and watch film in high definition which you dont really need as the Tv is full HD.
The sound quality is really good, sometimes when you watch films, it can suddenly seem like the volume has been turned down, when it hasnt so you may have to turn it up when watching films and then remember to turn it down again or it is very loud.
The range of inbuilt freeview channels are great and range from E4, sky news, bbc3, itvplus1, more4, dave, etc.
The control is nice and small and is sensetive so you dont have to press twice to change the channell like with some tv's.
The settings and guides are all easy to use and the off and on button is located on the left hand side.
All in all this is a great Tv i am so glad that we bought it, the picture is so clear and the screen is a lovely size. It comes with a special cloth to clean the screen. It is a really well made tv
I've owned this TV for awhile now and i feel that I'm comfortable enough with it to give a thorough review, I think. First up, why did I buy this particular TV? Main reason is price. At the time, the price seemed very attractive compared to others of the same screen size and feature set and it continues to be an attractive pick just by going through the others on the site and their prices. One major positive is just the build and look of the TV. The TV took a very minimalist approach with the buttons hidden away from the front and just a nice big matte screen to the front. Unlike glossy screen, it doesn't reflect much light and this actually works very well especially when you're not viewing the TV from a desirable viewing angle.
Another positive is that it supports 1080p as well as 720 programming. The picture quality if outstanding and very clear with very few noticeable jagged edges. I would say it performs pretty well IMO.
While HI-Def may look great on this TV, standard definition broadcasts look horrible in comparison. Maybe watching things in Hi-Def so often has made me look on standard def as being 'ugly' but that's just how it looks to me.
The colors are kinda off and are not as bright and vivid as on other more expensive sets, the colors are fine though, just not great.
Overall, the TV does a great job with Hi-Def, average job with standard def but it's a good but overall.
I guess Santa really had his eyes locked on me last year, and I guess I had been acting good, because this television from Toshiba is by far the best Christmas present I have ever received and probably will receive... Unless there`s a Porsche or something waiting for me in the future... This is a television that is great for all sorts of entertainment, from watching DVD`s to your favorite television program, or perhaps you would much rather hook this television up to your Play Station, X Box or Nintendo Wii, no matter what you prefer, this television can handle it with loads of style!
The very first thing I would like to mention about this model from Toshiba, is that it comes with this sort of strap, making it very safe in cases where young children are in the picture... It`s a very safety focused model, making it perfect for all of us really, because who doesn`t prefer a safe television set, right? As for the use of the television, this Toshiba model is very standard, meaning that getting to know how to use it is no problem, this is a very easy to understand and grasp television, from the remote to the television set itself. The remote control comes in a perfect size, it fits nicely into a grasp and feels very comfortable in the hand, as some remote controls tend to feel a bit big and "bumpy"... I must also mention the fact that the Toshiba model really offers quite a cool design, it`s super slim, classic and elegant, translating into fitting in all homes and styles!
Now, what really puts this television over the top, is the superb, wicked good picture quality! I mean, one of my favorite things is to just relax and enjoy my blu ray dvd`s played on this television, as the picture and sound quality is to die for! The images and pictures are all crystal clear and very well balanced, and the sound is smooth and lovely, soft when it needs to be and intense when an action movie is what is playing... With this television you can watch your favorite programs and series, enjoy dvd`s, play games, watch pictures and movie clips from your digital camera and loads of good stuff! I really have no complaints about this telly, and as I paid 450.55, the cost of it was absolutely reasonable! So, a really good television! That`s it! Thanks for reading!
This TV was on my boyfriends wish list for a long time and now we have it I see why! I got it as a surprise for him so set it up on my own and I must say it was so straight forward, not being the most tech savy girl I was worried but it only took a few minutes and it found all the free view channels easily. I even managed to link it up to his X box too! I was happy with myself but even more happy with Toshiba.
The picture quality is superb especially when we are making the most out of its full HD either through blue ray or the Xbox. My boyfriend was so impressed by the graphics it shows he even made me go look at his Forza cars and how clear they where, he was delighted.
It looks great with its sleek glossy finnish and the little strap it comes with to secure it is a great idea especially if kids or pets are running around.
The TV guide that comes with it is ace, its easy to use and allows you to change the view around depending on what you prefer. The remote is easy to use, it has a good lay out and is not too big.
We now even have it linked up with the PC so is brilliant for watching 4OD etc. and for showing family the holiday pics!
Dont get sucked into the hype. All this new technology. Image enhancers, 600Hz refresh rates and intelligent intra frame interpolation. What the vast majority of people need is a good basic BIG panel LCD TV. If you accept that the REGZA is perfect.
Having upgraded from a 37" upon removing the 40" REGZA from its box I didnt notice the increase in screen size, later I learned to put this down to something that Tosiba has always cleverly insisted on. Black bezels. This makes such a difference. The REGZA actually looks smaller in the room than my old grey 37" Sony, it doesnt stand out like some ugly bland monolith. You only notice the size when its on and you are watching it. Which is exactly as it should be.
Brightness is fine. Glare minimal. Colour reproduction and true black all surpassing anything you could criticise. And there is plenty of connectivity options. 4 HDMI ports. One side facing. SCART. USB slot to utilise the built in image viewer. All the ranks of RCA and optical audio outputs and inputs you would expect.
My point with this TV is simple. Dont be suckered into paying extra for all of these supposed modern extras, that do not work. Youll probably end up turning them off any way. Get a good panel from a respected manufacturer with enough connectivity, sit back, hook up your laptop, your DVD or Blu-Ray player (even both), use the inbuilt FreeView HD reciever and spend the extra money youve saved to hire a choir to mock your friends for buying a bunch of useless acronyms.
Oh and by the way, the remote is one of the simplest and intelligently laid out models Ive seen since the 70s.
