Toshiba 32SL738B
by Reviewer88
I was on the hunt for a new tv as I really wanted one for our bedroom. We already have a sony lcd widescreen in the living room and didn't want something as drastic as that, just something simple that does the job. And, of course look fab on the wall in the boudoir! The guys in soundstore were literally zero help. They meant well...but ... all that technical talk just sent me to the land of nod and of course I didn't understand a word. LCD, with slim LED screen and full hd 1080.....HUH???
**The Decision**
I purchased this toshiba beauty after discussing it with my sister, who only owns toshiba t.vs! She says they are reliable and do exactly what they are supposed to with no problems. Em sold!! I came across this particular one in Soundstore after turning my nose down at these high tech smart tvs. It was on display too so I could see how it would look and I loved it at first sight. The right size, great screen and wonderful picture.
**Price**
At just under Euro350 (approx under £300) it was quite pricey and a little over my budget of Euro300, which had been a push anyway. But after comparing it to other televisions in the store that day I had found that this was an average price. For a bedroom t.v though, which to be fair only myself, partner and kids would use, it is a little pricey and if I had to decide again, I would go for a cheaper brand.
**Toshiba 32SL738B**
I was ultra excited about the delivery, as one would be for any delivery!! It arrived on a saturday morning which was perfect. However, one downside. I had ordered quite a sizeable tv for an UPSTAIRS ROOM! Idiot!! It took the delivery guy, Liam and another friend, to manouvere it up and after nearly 45 mins we had a result. Now to put it together :) The tv is 32" and can be placed on the wall, which was our original intention or on a stand (such as a dressing table etc). We stuck with our orignal decision as with such a big tv, we wouldnt lose so much space if it was attached to the wall. It came with a large instruction manual which was filled with complicated words but lo and behold we didnt need to rely on it ....much! It was extremely easy to install. The hardest part was attaching it to the wall stand but leave these jobs to the men and all that. Installing literally took 5 minutes after plugging it in, to set up the various bits. It even came with a freeview box which was great as we were planning to get an extra sky box and now didnt need to.
**Features**
It is a hd ready tv with an led backlight(which guarantees a great picture) We haven't even used the high definition feature yet, having had it for only three months but it is a nice feature to have should we feel the fancy. The sound and picture quality were quite impressive, allowing you to vary the setting among other usual setting like brightness or surround sound options, this was perfect if you know how to do this. I found the picture quality in particular way way better than my sony tv and everything appears so much brighter and in proper form. The sound is delivered via Bass Boost and Dolby digital sound, which gives it a much better quality. I love the fact that the LED backlight saves on energy as we use way too much in this household and to know that it can be reduced by even a little is great.
In relation to attachments, there is a scart lead socket, a usb port and three HDMI connectors. We have only used the scart lead thus far to connect a playstation and to be honest I'm not sure what we need the HDMI connectors for but its handy to have. There is a lot to work with features wise so I would highly rate it based on these.
**Overall**
As a whole I think it was a good purchase. But if I were to decide again I would get a cheaper one as it is only a bedroom telly we needed. For a family tv I would highly recommend it as it is easy to use, has great features, a great reception. Everything you need in a tv these days. Read the complete review |

Toshiba 22EL833B

We bought this Toshiba television to go in the dining room, with so many people in our house it can be stressful when programmes clash so we thought it made sense to buy a (slightly bigger than) portable TV for that room so that someone could go in there if they particularly wanted to watch something.
We chose this TV simply ... because it was on offer for £169 in Tesco, it had everything we were looking for so I popped it into the trolley on a whim. After rescuing it from the ridiculously huge box it came in I (read: Mark) proceeded to set it up. The set up of this television is so easy; after switching it on and inputting a few details the TV really does it all by itself, pausing only a few times for you to select an option to ensure the settings are personalised to your requirements.
This TV is HD ready, an important consideration for us as we were planning to connect a Blu-Ray player to it, and also has built in Freeview (although unfortunately not HD Freeview). The Freeview was as simple to set up as the TV itself, I actually did this myself and once I'd found the correct menu (a bit of a mission actually) it was a simple case of pressing 'start' and allowing the TV to scan for available channels. This was done and dusted within five minutes, the only problem being that for some reason the Freeview channels had over-ridden the five terrestrial channels - I had to call Mark to deal with this and after a few shouty episodes he managed to suss it out.
Once set up using the TV and remote control is extremely easy - as usual with Toshiba there seem to be too many buttons on the remote and not all of them we use (or even know what they are), the instruction manual doesn't dwell for long on the remote and doesn't feature an illustration naming each button so some of them I doubt we'll ever know what they're for! The simple channel/volume changing buttons and the various menu options are easy to find and use, with the remote itself being designed in a way that you'll quickly become oriented to it and be able to practically use it in the dark.
This TV is LED backlit, which visually means it provides crisp clear picture and better contrast levels and functionally means it consumes less electric than other types of television. I'm looking at the screen now and even when watching non-HD images I'm very impressed with the colours displayed on screen, personally I think contrast levels are excellent on most modern TVs so I wouldn't say this is particularly special in this respect although it's as good as on our main TV in the living room. When watching in HD the screen comes to life, delivering deeply coloured and incredibly sharp images - this became completely apparent over Christmas while watching 2012 with the kids, despite the fairly small 22" screen the film was as crisp, sharp and colourful as you'd expect from a Blu-Ray disc.
As well as watching TV and films, we have also connected a PS2 to the television so the kids can have a play - this was a simple case of plugging the console into the back of the TV and allocating a channel for its own personal use. This would be the case whether it was a different console, a second DVD player or even a Sky box - I've listed the various different types of connection available at the end of the review, basically it's all gubbins to me so I'll let you read the facts for yourself! It is, apparently, possible to connect your modem to the TV and use it as a monitor for surfing the internet - I say apparently as we haven't done this but my brother-in-law tells me it can be easily done.
I'm 100% happy with this TV and considering the ease of use and quality I think we got quite a bargain. Aesthetically the design is good, the black casing of the TV is stylish (as you'd expect from Toshiba) although these types of flat panel TVs all look pretty similar so I'm not sure a purchase would be decided on looks anymore. We haven't had any screen burn or issues with the screen and I doubt we will have based on my experience with other Toshiba TVs of a similar standard. Obviously the fact that this is a 22" TV means it's not suitable for use in a large room or the living room, in our dining room however the picture remains clear and crisp wherever you're standing or sitting and the volume can be adjusted in increments to the perfect level.
So, that's my experience of this television and now onto the aforementioned gubbins. There are two HDMI connections, a USB port and a Ci slot (what?) for you to use and also a scart socket - which Mark says is very important, I say what's a scart for?! The aspect ratio for this TV is 16.9 and sound is delivered through Dolby Digital, there is a parental control function (note to self, set it to avoid Jonathan Ross and Eastenders) and it has a fairly standard resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This information was taken from the user manual and may or may not be of importance, I thought it best to include it as obviously different people look for different things when shopping for a TV. Toshiba 46ZF575DG

This TV has everything. Plenty of ports to hook up all of your gadgets and systems and a display that simply kicks butt.
One of the best features is the fact that the quality of picture does not change based on where you are sitting so no more fights about who gets the best seat because they are all the best ... seat.
The quality of picture is far better than the quality of picture at my local cinema. The display is so good that I am certain that the quality of non-HD images being displayed through this TV either through DVD or a regular TV channel is enhanced.
It is extremely slim and light so fits well on walls, including stud walls and any TV stand that can handle a screen this large.
The sound quality from the built in speakers is fantastic and often means I save electricity on turning on my surround sound. This TV has plenty of scart, HMDI and sound ports and can be upgraded with cards.
I've been so impressed with this TV and everyone who comes to our house immediately gravitates towards this excellent piece of viewing technology. Hands down beats most other competitors for its sheer range of features and highly competitive pricing.
If you are thinking of buying a TV don't buy this one because I have it and I don't want anyone else to have something this good. It makes me feel special. Read the complete review |
