LG M2780D-PZ
by The_Baron
Some people say that there's no difference between a regular a television picture, and a LED (backlight screen) with HDMI cable. They're wrong though. This TV has one of the best resolutions I've seen, and if you doubted LG to make top-quality tech beforehand, this product would change your mind quickly.
The picture is fully ... HD, 1080p, and has something called 'Mega Contrast Ratio', the purpose of which I'm not certain of, but whatever it does it works. The picture is incredibly clear and extremely defined, with images sharp enough to perform minor surgical procedures with. There is also a selection of picture modes to select from which, surprisingly, actually make a difference, including 'Intelligent sensor' which actually adjusts the picture according to the light in the room (I think), and the format of the video you're watching. Unlike some other brands of television, the picture modes do effect your enjoyment, and you can adjust it to fit different camera modes such as Cinema, Sport, Game and so on.
Sound is another area in which this TV scores highly on. When I first switched to this model I was surprised how good the sound quality was, which has stereo surround sound in-built, which is almost of home cinema system quality. Noises are clear and crisp and slight sounds can be heard easily, which makes the monitor great for gaming. The only down side is the hum the TV emits, which some newer HD tellys have managed to get rid of.
The button layout for this TV is average however, with some slightly irritating features such as the arrow which would usually turn the volume up (the one pointing left) turns it down, but this doesn't take long to get used to. On the other hand, on my T.V a message quite frequently states: 'Is This TV connected to your Computer' in a large box, obscuring a game of Battlefield 3 (see my other review.) However, a lot of flat-screens seem to have their controls squashed round the back, to the side of the TV screen so it's much more convenient to have all of this model's buttons at the front, clearly labelled, on a touch screen capacity.
So, in summary, the picture and sound is the best I've seen and heard on a television this size before, and can be found as cheaply £250 meaning this should defiantly be bought if you want something in between HD Ready and 3D. Just bear in mind this is a monitor TV, and won't show BBC2 or anything. Read the complete review |

Neovo K A19
by Krycek2018
I've owned this monitor for nearly five years now. At the time it was a brilliant monitor, capable of resolutions of up to 1440 x 990. Whilst being relatively small at only 19" this was still a high performing monitor at a cheap price. For those of you who are less tech savvy 1440 x 990 is the number of pixels that can be displayed ... on the screen at once. To put it into context, High Definition is classed as 1920 x 1080. So where does that leave us now? It's not high definition, not a million miles away either but still not high definition.
I've used it to play games, and have always been impressed with the quality of the graphics. In the five years I have owned it there aren't any dead pixels, and it still looks good for its age. The colour and brightness of the monitor is good quality, and the buttons for adjusting screen size etc on the monitor itself are straight forward and easy to use. Installation is a doddle, plug it into the mains and the back of the computer. Although to be fair most monitors are the same so it doesn't get extra points for that.
The downsides are it doesn't support blu-rays, and won't be high definition for playing games. You don't even get the option of watching blu-rays at a lower resolution, the computer flat out refuses to play them. As far as games go it's still a brilliant monitor, but I feel not supporting blu-rays holds it back enough now that I can't recommend this monitor in this day and age. For a hundred quid a decent monitor can be bought that supports HD. If on the other hand you get the option of picking this monitor up cheap and watching blu-rays isn't a priority then its a great little monitor Read the complete review |

Samsung Syncmaster T220
by Carrie23
~ Samsung SyncMaster T220 ~
The SyncMaster T220 is a 22'' (55 cm) wide TFT-LCD screen monitor by Samsung. The monitor comes in a black/rose colour combination and the display screen has a very high resolution of up to 1680x1050 pixels which is WSXGA+ (Wide Super Extended Graphics Array).
The display area has ... dimensions 473.76 mm in the horizontal direction and 296.1 mm vertically. The monitor stands on an oval shaped base with black finish. The screen can move backwards for about 30 degrees in order to be adjusted to the optimum position for the user, but it can't be raised or lowered vertically.
The monitor features a 2ms response time. The response time indicates how long it takes for the LCD pixel to change from black to white and back to black again. Therefore it shows how fast it can display moving images so that the picture doesn't get blurry while watching DVDs or when playing games. The 20000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (luminosity ratio) is excellent and the black in the pictures doesn't become grey when it's dark. You also get very bright whites on the display and the pictures look very natural and clear with sharp details.
The screen settings can be easily adjusted from the side control buttons of the monitor. There are 5 buttons for easy access and navigation in the menu. From the control buttons you can adjust the brightness, the contrast, the colour tone and balance, the sharpness etc. Additionally, there are some quick options that allow the user to select the adjusted image settings of the screen and achieve the best display experience when playing games, browsing the web, watching sports, movies etc. or create a customised mode manually.
The monitor has all the connection ports on the back. It has a power port, analog VGA and DVI inputs.
Finally, the monitor has a low power function for energy saving in the standby mode and it runs at 0.3 Watts when it's not in use so it's very efficient. It doesn't consume a lot of electricity because according to Samsung, the monitor has a built-in power management system that switches the monitor to a low-power mode when it is not used.
The monitor is made in Hungary and it comes with a 36 months guarantee.
~ The design ~
The design of the monitor is gorgeous. The black frame is made from clear plastic and it has deep red highlights at the bottom part. The design of the monitor is modern, with nice a sleek and glossy finish. The edges of the frame are slightly curved at the top and bottom while the side parts are designed as straight lines. The back side of the monitor is also slightly curved inwards. The light gray Samsung logo is placed on the front of the frame and below the display screen and the model name and specifications are also printed on the top right and left corners. The monitor stands on an oval shaped base with the same shiny black finish.
The power button is placed on the bottom right corner of the screen and it's actually a heat sensitive control button which is activated by gently rubbing your finger over it.
~ My opinion ~
I bought this screen in 2010 for my desktop unit and it works perfectly so far. Since I don't have a TV in my bedroom I use my PC to watch movies and this screen is the best that I've had so far. It's wide enough, with very good picture quality for DVD playback, accurate and vivid colours and clear display. You can adjust the colours the way you like from the side buttons or just use one of the pre-settings for the purpose that you want to use it for.
The installation of the monitor stand and the setup process of the screen to the PC is very easy and fast.
It's a big monitor and there is a lot of space on the screen to work on multiple document or application tabs at the same time. I would recommend this monitor for use at home and at the office. The 22'' display screen and the high resolution is ideal for working on programs, playing games, browsing the web and watching movies.
The design looks great and the red line at the bottom of the black clear glass frame adds colour to this simple and beautiful frame. However, the glossy finish of the monitor gets dirty easily with dust and fingerprints and it needs regular cleaning with a dust cloth.
~ Disadvantages ~
* The monitor can become a little unstable because of the oval base if I accidentally shake my desk.
* There is no web cam or USB ports on the screen. It doesn't have built-in speakers so I have connected the speakers separately.
* I have also noticed that when you look at the screen from a lower angle the display colours become dark.
The monitor comes with all the accessories and cables required to setup and connect it to the PC. It includes some useful printed documents such as the Quick Setup Guide, the warranty card, a CD -ROM with the User's guide and the monitor driver, the Signal Cable and the power cord. The setup guide shows how the monitor should be connected to the base and the cables in steps accompanied by detailed images and instructions.
~ Availability and Price ~
I purchased this monitor for around £150. It's a model of 2008 and it has now been discontinued by Samsung. However, some used items are still available to buy on ebay.co.uk at much lower prices (starting from less than £50).
~ Conclusion ~
Overall, it's a good performance monitor with fast response times and a great aesthetic design.
