Sony SDM-S71R ... had my SONY smd s71r LCD colour computer monitor for over two years now and am about to stop using it. The screen locks up within 2 sec of turn on. It used to be a good screen, menu fine (and buttons easy to see and no chance to hit accidentally, unlike others with buttons down on the stand) and very fair quality when I can get it working (its currently a TV display on a set top box which has VGA output, so it WAS a pretty slick quality display in the kitchen downstairs). Now, since no buttons work, I have to UNPLUG it when I should be able to turn it off; and have to plug it in, then turn on the STB within 2 secs or it locks up and nothing shows. Acer AL1715msd ... bought this lcd monitor about two years back for a £165 which was nt really that much in those days , however you could easily get one of these for £100 or so ish these days. We had nt bought anything from Acer before and there was nt much about it on the internet either but my husband is an it person and he thought it would nt be a bad bargain and we just went ahead and bougt it. To be honest I have nt had any problems with it at all. specially because I am at the computer for 3-4 hours everyday. Samsung Syncmaster 173P ... monitor is very beautiful and that is why I chose it. (I also liked the wide viewing angle & ability to connect analog/digital.) We bought it online, after looking at several monitors in stores. (Mostly, they pretty much looked the same.) There was a review online talking about its brightness, but I didn t take it into account. Now I wish I did. SyncMaster 173P really is exceptionally bright, to the extent that it hurts my eyes. (Truth is, I do have somewhat sensitive eyes & spend a lot of time behind the monitor.
