Advantages: Price, Looks
Disadvantages: Reliability
I’ll be honest, I have always used standard CRT monitors up to my last one which was 17” I have very recently purchased this Acer AL1711 model and initially was very impressed by it. It was affordable and looked good too!
Then after only two weeks of using the monitor it broke! For some reason it just decided to switch off after a quiet ‘Click’ noise. After checking all of the obvious potential reasons for this I came to the conclusion that it was faulty.
After speaking to some very helpful and polite people it has now been collected by the manufacturer for repair.
I guess only time will tell if they fix the problem and send the monitor back to me in working order and I do not know if this problem is specific to this product or whether all TFT monitors are less rigid that the traditional type.
Only time will tell I suppose but I have to be honest and say that I won’t be recommending this particular model to any of my friends.
If you have had a different story concerning this model, I would be grateful to know.

- 30/08/05 I've got this monitor as well, although I haven't had any of the serious problems that you've had, there's a pixel in the middle of mine that stays bright red and won't change colour. It stands out when you're viewing dark pictures. Didn't bother contacting them about it though. |
