Advantages: Clear, Crisp Display, Reduced Power Consumption, Space Saving
Disadvantages: Auto Configuration each time resolution change detected
I was on the look-out to make the transition from a standard CRT ("normal" screen, desk hoggers) monitor to a new TFT ("Flat" screen, less power hungry) equivalent for my home office but didn't want to re-mortgage the house to do so. I could have gone for a 15" TFT monitor, but this just didn't fit the bill as I wanted a minimum of 1280x1024 resolution. I opted for the AOC LM720A and I am glad I did so. I have used AOC equipment in the past and in fact, still have a 12" CRT of theirs that I use every so often when I want to build/re-build one of my servers. The LM720A has certainly proved itself already, it provides a clear, crisp image - brightness is good and easily modified via the simple on screen display (OSD). Screen response is also very good - something you need to check carefully when moving from CRT to TFT, particularly if you intend to watch DVD's or play fast-moving games - I use mine for the former, rather than the latter and again, cannot fault the screen - I have not noticed any blurring during actions sequences and colours come across very well. The monitor comes with a captive 15pin lead, so if you were planning on using this with your DVI capable graphics cards - look for an alternative model - this is an "analogue only" monitor. Also contained in the base is a handy set of speakers, which are useful for general use, but hardened gamers will likely stick to their Dolby 5.1 setup. If I were to find fault with this monitor, then it would be with it's insistence of always "auto-configuring" itself when it detects a resolution change - this can be a bit painful if you multi-boot your PC with alternative Operating Systems like Linux or dare I say..... DOS! - However, for "normal" users this would not be a problem and very likely, not experienced All-in-all I would highly recommend this monitor for anyone wanting to make the switch fro
m CRT to TFT without wanting to shell-out a fortune to do so.
