I got this monitor from Pixmania a couple of months ago.

What impressed me was the size, HDMI function and design for the price point.

I needed something that I could connect my PS3, XBOX 360 and PC to. After buying a VGA cable for the 360, I was ready to go.

Once unboxed it was very easy to set up, pretty much plug and play. There are a few settings that can be tweaked but these are not extensive as you would imagine at this price. Still pretty good though. There are also many preset colour modes such as 'Theatre' and 'Game' which can be easily cycled through at the touch of a button. This is handy if you've not got the time to do each one individually.

The design is minimal, featuring a dark black frame with the bezel slanting at the top and bottom. It's not going to win any awards but for the price point it manages to avoid looking tacky.

The buttons are hid well at the bottom right of the screen. The on screen menu is a bit fiddly as the down/up buttons are used for both brightness and volume. You have to get used to pressing down first to initiate volume control or up for brightness, and then actually doing the adjusting afterwards. Not ideal.

There is no remote for this set. It goes without saying it would have been nice to have one but PC monitors rarely do so you can't hold it against the Asus.

Picture quality is good. All three inputs delivered a good, sharp picture. There is a tangible level of backlight bleed on darker scenes in movies/games, but it isn't overly intrusive as to be a major problem.

The speakers built in at the back are a nice touch as they're hidden away. They're not amazing really, pretty below average but are an improvement on my previous LG monitor. They will suffice if you're a casual PC user, but if you're a regular gamer or movie watcher, something more substantial may be required.

The stand provided does not rotate. You would be surprised at how useful such a little feature is. It's not the end of the world (I bought a LCD rotating turntable from ebay for around £3 which did the job fine) but it's a pretty standard feature so a little disappointing that it's excluded.

Overall impressions? I wanted a 24" monitor for gaming and PC use on a budget. I got this for £170 delivered and it's exactly what I required. It doesn't have the bells and whistles and fancy touches of the more expensive Samsungs and LGs, but it

performs well,
looks nice
has ample inputs
and is inexpensive.

If you want a big PC monitor, or a nice sized screen for 360/PS3 use with HDMI on a budget, then this is the one for you.
