A good TFT monitor that is currently being used on a daily basis. Would recommend to frieds and others.
Have purchased approx 50 of these monitors. They come with the good reputation of all dell equipment, and the added bonus of the warranty to cover any issues that may arise within the warranty period.
Smart design with crisp clear display with all of the normal functionality of most monitors to include manual colour adjustments and orientation settings.
They also come with the good feature that the whole monitor on its stand can be rotated to the landscape or portrait orientation. And with the added bonus that it can be height adjusted to obtain the perfect viewing height.
The added inclusion with these monitor is that they have both VGA and DVi connectors which is good when upgrading pc with only one connection type.
They can be easily de-mounted from the stand a hooked to wall mounted brackets.
They also have USB connection point on the side of the monitors, which has also provided a benefits.
I was always reluctant to make the move to an LCD monitor originally. I always stuck with large screen CRTs because the brightness and picture quality couldn't be beaten by the first couple of generations of LCD monitors. I bought a Samsung 15 inch LCD a couple of years ago, and was using it quite happily up until this week when someone gave me this Dell monitor. Now I see what I've been missing.
The increased screen size also brings with it increased resolution and with it, clarity. It increases the desktop area not just by and two inches of screen size but also increases your perception of size because the toolbar becomes smaller and your work area increases.
The chassis of the screen is simple and business like which is what you would expect from Dell, although there's a glaring lack of height adjustment, it does however tilt. The bezel is black, narrow and slim giving it a smallish impact on your desk. The front panel controls, and on screen menus controlling brightness and contrast are simple to use and straight forward.
All in all, it's a fantastic monitor and if this doesn't make you want to an LCD from a CRT then nothing will.
The Dell UltraSharp 1708FP was designed for a wide variety of users ranging from the home to corporate or financial trading environments. It has a wider viewing angle, which allows users to view the screen from various positions without compromising image quality. The higher contrast ratio generates sharper, crisper lines and images. Fast response times provide superior clarity for moving images with "no ghosting."
