Advantages: Stylish, Easy to Install and Use
Disadvantages: Unweighted Base, Bit of Glare
The Hanns.G HW191AP LCD monitor was a bargain buy for me as I picked it up second hand for only £25. When I say second hand, I mean hardly used kind of second hand. If you want to buy this new, then it'll cost you around £100 from places like Amazon. There are a couple of different models available, with the letter on the end changing to show an upgraded version, but personally I can't really see much difference between any of them. Must be something like screen resolution or similar which differenciates between the models - you'll have to compare the various models and find out which one is best for you I think.
This model was really easy to get set up when I got it home. It's a widescreen monitor so it fits really nicely on our small PC desk which is tucked away under the stairs. I'd been using a little 15" monitor and liked that by getting a widescreen 19" like this, I could fit in the same height space under the stairs but benefit from extra width.
The stand is a bit thin and plasticky to the touch, but it's more than sturdy enough to support the equally slim and rather lightweight monitor. It's got a kind of swirly design in the base, a little like a 'G' funnily enough, and I'm not entirely sure if there's a reason for that other than style but there doesn't appear to be. They could have weighted the front of the base just for extra security in my opinion, but they haven't, and hey - it's not like it's fallen over.
The quality of the picture on the screen is not the best I've ever seen, but it is definitely good. When I plugged this into my PC for the first time, it just set itself up automatically and obviously just used it's factory settings. I had to change the brightness right away though as I found it was really quite bright. Even now I've turned the brightness down, I do find that there's an edge of glare to this monitor. The picture is clear and crisp, images and videos are as you'd expect to see them on an LCD screen - but there's no way I could comfortably sit and read an ebook on here.
For the bargain price I paid I'm thrilled with this, and I think anyone who gets this at a reduced price will be perfectly contented with it. I'm not sure it's worth paying the full £100+ RRP for though, especially as Dell monitors tend to be a little better quality for around that same price tag. One to consider if you're after a new monitor though. I'm particularly a fan of the sleek style and design, though I do think they really should have weighted the base.
