Advantages: Inexpensive. Stylish, widescreen, compact on desktop
Disadvantages: Fiddly on/off switch
THE STORY
We moved house and when I unpacked my monitor it looked fine, when I plugged it in and set the computer up it didn't work properly. Googled the problem and the techguy came up with the answer when the symptoms were explained: it's ****ed.
Having spent so much time hassling BT to get the broadband set up, being without due to lack of monitor was going to be a big problem, so I set off in search of a cheap (I'd just moved house remember) flat panel monitor with short delivery time.
Some in-depth kelkoo-ing came up with this baby for £89.99 plus vat at Misco. It's 19 inch widescreen, so was an improvement on the previous 17 inch and at under a hundred I thought "why not?"
ORDERING IT
Simple ordering on line from Misco who confirmed the order by email and telephone the same day and dispatched it the next. Being a cheap skate (even though I was desperate) I paid only for three day delivery, but it arrived on the right date and was well packaged and undamaged.
Took less than 5 minutes to plug in and I was off. Easy and cheap. bingo!
USING IT: THE PROS
1. It sits nicely on the desktop and doesn't take up too much space.
2. I like the look of it.
3. It has built in speakers which are not great especially on bass notes but adequate and did me until I could find my proper speakers in a packing box somewhere two weeks later.
4. It is very easy to adjust the angle of the screen.
5. Clarity of picture etc is great - and being widescreen you can watch movies and actually enjoy them - it is a good as the telly.
USING IT: THE CONS
1. The on/off switch and the volume buttons are in an annoying place on the side of the monitor. Sleek design but difficult to work out which button is which as they don't face you and they all feel the same. When switching off the computer is would be easier to have the on/off nice and easily displayed on the front of the monitor - to encourage you to save energy and switch it off when you walk away.
2. Mine came with a dead pixel. They only refund if you have 5 dead pixels or more. So I only have one, but if you had, say four all in the middle of the screen that might be a bit annoying. Have to say mine doesn't bother me at all when it is in use and I keep reminding myself I paid less than £100 quid....
3. The cable for the power lead is at a bit of an awkward angle going in to the back of the monitor. But then they all are. Why is that?
So all in all - its great and I've only had it for 7 months but no problems so far. It came with a two year off-site warranty.
Summary: A great value for money buy
