Advantages: Design, Picture Quality
Disadvantages: None
Introduction My Dad bought me this monitor a few months ago for my birthday. My old monitor was really big, in terms of both the screen size and also the size of the unit itself. It was about 10 inches in depth so it took up a large amount of space on my desk. With my tower, printer, scanner and the keyboard all on my desk, it was difficult to work. Neither myself or my Dad are computer of PC whizzes. I had seen this monitor on a couple of websites and I was pretty impressed. I asked one of my friends, Matt, who knows a bit about computers. He advised me that it was a very good product and was a good buy with everyting considered, including the price. ********************* Picture Quality Considering the two facts, that the monitor is TFT and that it is a flat screen, the quality if the display should be very good. In fact, it is exceptional. The quality and sharpness of the movies I watch is incredible. I watch more DVD's on my PC than on the televisoion, the picture quality is just that good. I could bore you with all of the technical details, but I don't really understand them. Take it from me, the quality of pictures and moving images is stunning. *********************** Design The screen, sits on a small 'stand' that is incorporated into the unit. It is very sturdy and gives the monitor a low centre of gravity. This means it is difficult to knock over, despite the fact that it appears it will. It comes in an off-white colour, that Samsung have called ivory. It is a very neutral colour and fits in well with my white and beige coloured walls and should suit any room or office. ********************** Ease of Use You can bring up a number of on-screen menus, by pressing the buttons located next to the power button. These allow you to change the contrast and brightness of the display, as well as many other handy features. These are very easy and simple func
tions to carry out and they allow you to change certain things so your needs are catered for. The basic function of turning the monitor on/off can be fulfilled by simply pressing a button. There are no other functions that you can perform so this is a very, very easy machine to use. ********************* Ease of Installation Once you have removed the monitor from its packaging, the installation process can begin. You need to plug it into your tower and then into a power socket. You need to do this when the computer is turned off. When you switch it on, it will say that a new monitor has been found. You then have to configure the drivers, which shouldn't take too long. Once this is done, your new monitor will be fully installed and ready for you to use and enjoy. ************************ Manufacturer Support I haven't required the help of Samsung, yet, but I think they would be very efficient in dealing with any problems with the monitor. They have numerous and very detailed information on how to contact them. They have an internet site as well as UK based telephone helpline. If you want to write to them, the UK and international address are enclosed in the packaging. It also clearly states: 'please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problems with the product or questions regarding its usage'. This fills me with confidence that they will try and help me as best they can. ********************* Instructions The actual instruction manual, is a bit annoying. It isn't like those of Sony or Philips, who are the manufacturers of most of the electronics products in my house. I think it is because Samsung is a south-east Asian company and they have been translated into English from another language. They don't make a lot of sense and the way they are organised and set out is just really confusing. Fortunately, I haven't had to use the guidance and neither should any other
buyers, because installation is so simple. *********************** Value for Money All in all, this is worth every single penny of the £200 price tag. For your money you get a really handy sized item that offers really good veiwing quality. There are other similar monitors on the market, but this is possibly one of the best. You can't find many 15 inch monitors for any less than £200, wherever you look. ****************************** Recommendation If you need, or would very much like a small and funky monitor this is the one for you. It will free up som much room on your desk and you will get sensational picture quality. You will not find that many people have these monitors in the home, so you will have something a bit different. It is definetly worth getting and many of those who have seen this in our flat have said that they want one.
