Advantages: Great picture, Built in speakers
Disadvantages: Weak sound
I have been using this screen for the past year. I purchased it online from Dabs.com for £333.
I run it at 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz using the analogue input. The software tells me that the monitor cannot run at this speed and wants me to use 60Hz. When run at 60Hz the picture has strange lines moving about the screen and is quite annoying. 75Hz the picture is rock steady and extremely clear. The viewing angle is excellent, as is the contrast. I have not had any pixel failures.
It is very easy to adjust the screen to get a good view. It can be mounted on the wall if required.
The screen is very good looking (important to me as the PC is in my lounge)
The output from the speakers is very tinny. This does not bother me as I do not watch DVD's or listen to music through them. This suits me as I only need sound for clips found on the Internet.
The playback of films on DVD I find is not very good. I find the picture is fuzzy and a little jerky. This may be a limitation with the software that I am using (Power DVD 5).
The only problem I have had is the "lump in a wire" AC adapter. This developed an intermittent fault after about nine months. I traced this fault and phoned Samsung. The chap I spoke with was very helpful and put a request through for a new power pack to be sent. Unfortunately somewhere along the way the wrong part was sent out, I received a power lead (i.e. the lead from the wall socket to the transformer) suitable for continental socket outlets. Another phone call and the correct part was sent. This has been working faultlessly since.
Overall I am very pleased with my 172T. It is a great improvement on the CRT displays that I have had before.
