Advantages: Stylish, good build-quality, excellent image quality, good auto-adjust

When you take the monitor out the box you are instantly taken aback by how big it is, particularly if you're upgrading from a smaller monitor. At 22", the monitor is big enough to open two full documents side-by-side on screen. It's very stylish, but isn't overstated, and boasts a particularly attractive blue LED-backed power button.

From a practical perspective, the 226BW was easy to assemble, plug in, and configure. It's possible to adjust tilt and rotate the screen, but it does suffer from a lack of vertical height adjustment.

The most important aspect of any monitor is the quality with which it displays an image, and in this respect, the 226BW is excellent. When using the DVI input the colours are sharp, crisp, and there is no noticeable ghosting on DVDs/HD films. One strong criticism would be a noticeable back light bleed at the top and bottom edges, which presents itself strongly when watching a film with black bars.

The SyncMaster 226BW is only really done justice when plugged into a DVI output, but it still performs well with an AVI connection. The adjustable options include a wide variety of elements, and the auto-adjust function is surprisingly good.

The monitor is good value for money, performs well, and has very few negatives associated with it. If it included vertical height adjustment and the back light bleed wasn't so strong, it would be almost perfect.

Summary: An excellent quality, affordable monitor, with very few downsides.
