We had a little trouble with our desktop computer a few months ago, where things just started to take it in turns to stop working. To be fair, the computer is a few years old now so I have been expecting things to stop working within it. The latest thing we had to replace was the monitor. I was sure the monitor didn't work because of something to do with the actual computer itself, but was later proved wrong and so the hunt was on for a new monitor. That's when we came across this one, the Samsung SyncMaster B2030.
Replacing the Old with the New...
We initially only wanted to replace the monitor we had previously been using which had a 17 inch screen, however this particular monitor we were looking at only had 20 inch monitors in stock, it had been reduced by £10.00 already but I wasn't sure whether I wanted a screen so big, I was just deciding against it when the manager said he would knock another £10.00 off, so yes, he won because we bought it in the end for £89.00 from PC World.
The monitor looked huge to me when we got it home and out the box, but it did look lovely with its very high black gloss finish. It was then reality kicked in and I realized I would be forever cleaning smudgy fingerprints and dust off it. But never mind it looked nice and we would be able to use our computer again. Along with the monitor came the usual cables, Power cord, D-sub cable and DVI cable. There was also a quick set up guide, warranty card and User's guide DVD. The Stand support and connector are also black and fit together very easily. As an added extra we also got a special cleaning cloth for the monitor, I thought that was a nice touch.
Once it was all plugged in, I was surprised just how easy it all was to set up. In fact I didn't really do anything but clicked the mouse a few times and to be honest I never even looked at the User's guide or quick set up, it just seemed to do itself, all I really had to do was adjust the screen resolution and this was done by touching the screen at the bottom in the middle where a little message popped up saying auto adjust, I pressed that and it was adjusted instantly. I'm not going to go into how to connect all the cables because aside from being extremely boring to read, you probably wouldn't refer to this review to install the cables anyway, so I'll move straight on to what the actual quality of the picture is like.
I have to say I was really pleased with the quality of the picture. Watching films is a pleasure and anything like you-tube videos are great to watch on this monitor, especially with it being a bigger screen than what we've been used to. I do like the idea of an LCD display on the flat screen, but I really don't like how easily it gets marked, it doesn't take long before the screen starts looking grubby. The stand/connector can be tilted back or forwards to the desired position, I like this idea because not everyone is the same, and we all like to adjust things to our own personal preference, even computer monitors.
The dimensions of the monitor are 49.2 cm x 17.8 cm x 39.6 cm. I'm presuming that this monitor would be compatible with any computer as it doesn't say otherwise. Well it works fine with our Packard Bell that's on its last legs, so I guess it would be alright to use on another newer model computer. We've had this monitor for a few months now and not had any problems with it. It does everything we want and need it to, so what more could we ask. I am really quite pleased we went ahead and bought it and have no regrets in doing so.
I don't want to Bore You so...
I decided against including a huge list of specs because I know if you are anything like me and you happen to be interested in buying this particular model monitor then you will do further research and you will find all the information regarding specifications etc. on any website that sells this particular monitor.
The Main Things I Feel People Need to Know about This Samsung SyncMaster B2030 is...
That its good quality, sturdy enough looks good and has great picture quality, it's easy to set up and start using, it has proved very reliable in the few months we've had it. I would recommend this monitor; I personally think it's worth the money we paid for it. I'm sure these monitors are available in lots of different places especially online where you'd probably get a better deal, but we purchased ours from PC world, physical shop, not online. We paid £89.00 for it and bought it home with us there and then.
Thank you for reading my review which may also be posted on other sites.
