Advantages: Good Looks, Plug And Play, Excellent Picture

Disadvantages: Not Wall Mountable

I have recently, last week, bought a new computer and although I already have a 19" widescreen TFT, I decided that I would also purchase a new monitor as I might still use my old computer through the 19". I wanted a 24" widescreen to go with my new purchase, however when I saw the deal on this monitor, I decided two inches were not that important!!

Specification

Below is the all important numbers:
22" Flat Panel Monitor
1680 x 1050 Maximum Monitor Resolution
20,000:1 Contrast
2msec Response Rate
300cd/m2 Brightness
Plug & Play

Why I Picked This Monitor

The first and main reason for me choosing this particular monitor, was the make: Samsung, we have an LCD TV by Samsung which we have had for about 3 years now and it is fantastic in every way, it has really made us like the make and when I saw this monitor was a Samsung it ticked the first box on my want list. The next thing was the fact that it had a 2 ms refresh rate, most monitors in this price range are 5 ms, and the 20000:1 dynamic contrast was a nice touch also. The next thing was the price at £195.00 it was extremely competitive in my opinion, also they had loads available at my local PC World where I could order online and get 5% cashback through one of my cashback sites and then go straight to the store and pick it up.

Looks And Nice Touches

Another reason I chose this screen was the extremely good looks it has, the frame is glossy black glass and around the edge it is clear glass, at the bottom of the frame it is curved and the black glass fades into read and then clear, it has the Samsung logo here also. It is an extremely attractive monitor in my opinion.

The rear of the screen is also very nice, being glossy black and displaying the Samsung logo. The conections are hidden behind a removable panel which makes the rear very clean and tidy, making it perfect to display on a desk where you can see both sides of the monitor.

This all sits on a circular base which is also finished in black gloss and finished the screen off perfectly in the looks department.

Power

Also on the bottom part of the frame to the right is a power logo printed on the glass, there is no power button, you simply touch the glass where the power logo is to switch the screen on and off, a really nice touch I think! The rest of the control switches are hidden on the right of the screen off the front frame. When the monitor is switched on a curved red light appears under the power logo which is another nice touch.

Set Up

Set up is incredibly easy as the monitior is plug and play compatible so it is just a case of literally plugging it in to the power and to your computer via VGA or HDMI leads (both are supplied) and letting the computer sort everything out driver wise.

In Use

I have been using this monitor for a bout a week now, mainly for internet, however I have played a few games on it too and I have to say the performance is excellent, far better than any screen I have had before.

Scrolling, even on complicated graphic games, is smooth and perfect, it is like watching a movie in high definition. The colour it gives out is really sharp and vivid as are the graphics displayed on up to date games, I have not watched a movie on this monitor yet, and probably won't to be honest as we have a 40" screen in the same room, however I would expect the picture to be perfect if you were to use it for this.

Reccomended ?

Would I recomend this monitor? Yes, it has everything going for it. I was looking ideally for a 24" screen this time around, however 22" really is enough and this Samsung is brilliant. You can get a 22" screen for a shade over £100.00, however for a touch under £200.00 you are getting everything you will need for the next few years and more! Whats more it is a Samsung so it will last brilliantly. I can't praise this monitor enough it really is the dogs b******s in my opinion, not only with its stunning good looks but in use it is faultless also.

The only problem I can think of with this monitor, is the fact that it cannot be wall mounted. This was pointed out to me when I picked it up from PC World and I had not noticed while purchasing it online, however this was not a problem for me as it was not going to be wall mounted, obviously it would be a problem if you were thinking of doing.

Price And Availability

Like I mentioned earlier, I got mine from PC World, and paid £195.00 for it, however I will get 5% cashback through Topcashback as I ordered it online and then picked it up from store, meaning I got the best of both worlds in my opinion. With the cashback taken off it stands me at £185.25 although I noticed on Ciao! there are 7 offers from £174.00 so I might have paid slightly over the odds, however like I say I had it the same day so that is worth quite a lot alone to me.

Thanks for reading, also on Ciao!
