Samsung Syncmaster T220HD
Advantages: Great looks, simple to operate, feature packed.
Disadvantages: High price.
You could be forgiven for thinking the Samsung Syncmaster T220HD is just another computer monitor. There are two subtle giveaways, however. The first is the price. Although this particular model looks very sleek and stylish, a pricetag of £395 is pretty steep for a 22inch monitor. If you are just looking for a computer monitor then Samsung sell a 24inch one for a fraction of the cost of this one. The other subtle giveaway is the name of the model. 'T220HD' indicates that this is a 'High Definition' screen. This model is a computer monitor with a built-in Digital TV Tuner.
The design of most Samsung products is what sells them to me, well, it is one of the main reasons for purchasing them. The beautifully creative features and jet black finish really does stand the Samsung products apart from rivals' offerings. This is a 22inch widescreen LCD TFT Monitor with the added bonus of a Digital TV Tuner. Obviously you are paying a hefty price for such a feature, but it is one worth paying in my opinion.
You could look at its dual purpose design as convenient or space-saving. I find that it is the difference between having a Home PC and laptop in my bedroom at all. The style and design of any Samsung product is smething worth shouting about and the Samsung trademark jet black finish is broken up for a change with a streak of red just underneath the viewing area. The 1080p Full HD screen is pure perfection. The package comes complete with a PDF user guide and Freeview can be set-up by following the easy-to-follow on-screen instructions. Also included is a remote control (including a set of batteries), a VGA cable and also a DVI cable.
Something I did find a surprise and have never seen before with such an item was that a cleaning cloth is also included. You could say you should expect this for the price, but I have never seen such a thing included with a TV or monitor before. The base and shaft of the stand that the T220HD is supported by is also jet black in colour. Although it does appear to be of a compact size it does hold the T220HD sturdy and robustly.
The T220HD is a low power monitor, consuming just 58Watts when on and less than 2Watts when in stand-by mode. When it comes to connectivity Samsung havn't deserted the T220HD. There are a whole host of the usual connectivity ports, dual HDMI inputs and DVI and VGA inputs. There really are enough input ports to satisfy most techno buffs.
Using the T220HD on a day-to-day basis really is a pleasure. I have never had any issues with connectivity or useability. Having previously owned a TV with built-in DVD player I am now on the lookout for a DVD player worthy of being paired up with this fantastic piece of kit. I were surprised to see that this model has been out since 2008 - I wouldn't have been surprised if I had found it was released this year, it really is that good.
I have no choice but to give a positive recommendation of the Samsung Syncmaster T220HD and suggest anyone looking for a complete TV/monitor solution to look no further than the T220HD.
Summary: Value dual purpose monitor/TV. Teriffic looks.
