Derren Brown is an English magician, illusionist, mentalist, sceptic and painter?! After seeing a stage hypnosis show while at Bristol University, Derren became intrigued by the subject, encouraging him to perform magic tricks and hypnosis. He started his shows back in 1992, to small audiences in Bristol university. Ever since then his act has got more popular, and has gained him many fans, and so, he started work on some TV episodes. These included Mind Control, Tricks of the Mind and Trick or treat. He has also done six 1 hour specials, starting with Russian Roulette, Seance, Messiah, The Gathering, The Heist and The System. Two of his live shows have also been seen on TV, called Something Wicked This Way Comes and An Evening of Wonders (see my review on this dvd).

On the 5th of June 2009, me and six of my friends were lucky enough to attend his new live show, called Enigma. I shall not give away too much of what he did, but all i can say is that we left stunned, it was by far the best thing i had ever seen him do! My friend was lucky enough to catch a frisbee, which lead to Derren managing to read my friends mind, and find out a child hood memory he had asked him to think of. He then brought other people up on stage, where he told them to change the time on a watch and cover it up with tinfoil. He made others do the same thing with a side of a dice and a card out of a pack. He then managed to guess the time on the watch, the side of the dice and the card out of the pack. Phenomenal!

After the interval, Derren attempted to hypnotise the whole audience, by playing some weird sounds over the speaker system. Unfortunatly, i was not hypnotised by this :( but my friend was and was taken up on stage, where he was duped into thinking a bottle of vinegar was a bottle of coke. He then did some quite remarkable things with a spirit cabinet, before the grand finale, which i shall not ruin as i hear one of the Enigma shows will be broadcast on TV in the not too distant future. Keep in mind he does far more tricks and illusions in the show.

I think that Derren Brown is a wonderful entertainer. His illusions and tricks are spectacular, and he keeps the show going at a nice pace. He also very funny with little snide jokes every now and then. I would definatly go and see another of his shows, so i can't wait for his next tour and show!!!
