The classic story brought to life on the stage. I saw this show on the stage recently and absolutely loved it.
Like most women, this is one of my favourite movies and I was excited about seeing it live to see how they would do it. It was also my hen night so I went with 15 of my closest friends and had a absolute wail of a time.
What I loved about it is that they stuck to the story fairly well and didn't really change anything. I do hate it when stage shows are different to the films for some reason, I just think I love the film so much, I want to see it in person and be part of it and experience it.
This show is definitely for girls, leave the men at home. Most of the audience was women with only a handful of men and I'm sure they felt very uncomfortable.
The theatre is very small and intimate which I think adds to the atmosphere as you believe Johnny is dancing just for you! The sets I thought were great too and worked well. The stage was actually a revolving stage and this in particular was really good, especially in the scenes where there was a car on stage. It made the whole thing flow really well and definitely worked in my opinion.
The cast are abolutely amazing, the dancing is brilliant. The supporting dancers were all really really good and to be able to watch them up close was quite a treat. The Johnny character was very believeable and was the best dancer on the stage. At one point he took his top off and the whole theater just exploded.
The costumes were great too and really brought out the era of the film. The girls outfits were great because they really lent themselves to dancing and made you want to go out and wear clothes like them too.
The tickets were fairly hard to get hold of because this is such a popular musical and they were fairly expensive, about £40 each but if you loved the film then you will definitely love the musical and it's one I truly recommend for a great day out with the girls.
