Mary Poppins - the musical (touring): ... saw this after seeing the theatre production of Disney s Lion King and loving it. Thinking another Disney theatre performance would be just as good, and the fact my Mum and her friend really enjoyed this I thoughtI was going to have a lovely time. I was wrong! This is one of the very few things that I ve actually pre-bought tickets for at full price, normally I just go to Leicester Square and see what the deals ar...

annadivall Wicked The Musical
... husband and I went to see Wicked in London for our 1st wedding anniversary. Before going to see it, I was so excited that I bought the CD soundtrack. I put the songs on my iPod and started listening straight away. I enjoyed the music (I like most musicals and the soundtracks anyway) but didn t know anything about the story apart from that it was about the witches from the Wizard of Oz and that one of them was green. Turning up to watch the show, we found our seats and waited patiently for it to start. The stage had a kind of safety curtain up, which had a map of the areas in the musical. I recognised some of them already, mainly Oz and Munchkinland, and I found that...

Happyjaw Apollo Victoria Theatre in general
... was under the impression that the interior decor had been created, undoubtedly at great expense, just for the current show in residence, Wicked. However, that is inaccurate, the theatre has undergone renovations throughout some of the most artistic eras in the UK which is where the fantastic and somewhat ethereal design comes from. The building was designed as the New Victoria super cinema by E. Warmsley Lewis and W E Trent in 1929 in it s fantastic art deco style. The building is created in severe and unattractive concrete, relieved by vertical fluting to the front, and horizontal fluting to the side. The standard bore of concrete is dressed with polished marble, g...

FlickeringEmber Echo Arena Liverpool
... year, 2008, Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture. So having this arena open on the 12th of January was a major coup for this special year. I was at this event and have been to many others since then. I have also been to many other arenas and stadia all over the country so was keen to see how this one would stand up. It is a welcome addition to Liverpool s skyline, and very modern and minimalist, but attractive looking in its design. The views from around it are great, sitting by the river Mersey on a summer s evening is highly recommended and there are hotels, bars and restaurants nearby for both before and after the show. It was also great to have som...
