It's a shame when a theatre production attracts more attention for the fact that it brings two "sci-fi stalwarts" together, rather than the fact that it's a performance between two accomplished actors. Yet that's precisely what's happened with this production of Hamlet in some quarters. It's become a face-off between the current Doctor Who and the former captain of the USS Enterprise. Now that the play has finally opened to the public, it's time to put the sad sci-fi prattling aside, and evaluate the RSC's Hamlet for what it is: a top-notch performance of one of the Bard's trickiest plays.
