The Hull New Theatre is a Grade II listed building. It was opened in 1939 and is the main theatre in the City of Kingston Upon Hull. It is currently the main theatre in Hull but it may come under some competition soon when the Hull Truck Theatre establishes itself in its new location as part of the St. Stephens development. The Hull New Theatre is used by the musicals, opera, ballet, drama, and children's productions that travel the country. It is also used every Christmas for the annual pantomime. The hull new theatre was built as assembly room in the 1800’s and became the New Theatre in 1939 .There were experimental bingo sessions in the sixties when the numbers of people attending the theatre dropped . Thankfully these were scrapped and in 1985 after a major refurbishment new theatre reopened as the Hull New Theatre . Here I also read , that amongst further improvements in 1985 access for the less able bodied was addressed .
