Newest Review: ... was jaw-dropping and astounding, the way the actors captured the essence of the animals was magnificent. Throughout the show was the most beautifully sung music, a real taste of Africa which I bought on CD afterwards. This is a real must for any Lion King fan, but I want to point out that although kids will love it, it is much more than an enactment of the film. I honestly never wanted it ... more

... to end, it was so full of surprises (which I won't give them all away as it might spoil it) and beauty. PLEASE go and see it, you wont regret it! I can't wait to see it again!...more

Premium Review Lion King: Astounding and magnificent masterpiece! (244 words)

This is the single most spectacular production I have ever seen, and if you haven't seen it yet, you MUST go soon!! It begins with a multitude of animals emerging from the back of the theatre and walking in a procession along each side of the audience and on to the stage. These animals are all fantastic actors, including small children, dressed as giraffrs, lions, zebras and even a full size elephant! This actually brought a tear to my eye, and this was right at the beginning! The costumes are very artistic and much cleverer than I was expecting, some giving an impression of the style and movement of the animal rather than a lifelike ...  Read the complete review

"We settled down. The lights in the theatre drop, anticipation begins to raise within me "Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba", the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention. My heart rate starts to intensify. I'm becoming excited like a young boy again. "Nants ingonyama bagithi baba,Sithi uhhmm ingonyama, Ingonyama" Rafiki belts out to the packed Lyceum. I can't believe I am here, sat in a packed on Lyceum on a Saturday night in December, watching my favourite Disney movie on stage live." I was approaching my first anniversary with my wonderful Girlfriend and was looking for something romantic to treat her too. She'd given me such ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lion King: The Ultimate Family Theatre Experience (540 words)

I first saw The Lion King in the West End when it opened in 1999 and was very dubious about how well it would transfer from the screen to the stage. However, as soon as the curtain went up, all of my expectations were blown away. The Lion King is the perfect family show and it's easy to see why it still plays to sell out audiences now and why it was both mine and my sister's top choice to see on our recent trip to New York, despite having seen it only a few months before in the West End. The Lion King plays in London at the Lyceum Theatre on the Strand, easily accessible from Charing Cross station or Covent Garden. Sadly, due to its wide appeal and ...  Read the complete review

The Lion King has established itself as one of the biggest west end shows in London. It is currently showing at the Lyceum Theatre. Seeing the Lion King was one of the first west end shows I have seen in many years and it did not disappoint!! It is a great transfer from the disney classic film to the stage incorperating all of the music and action. The costumes are amazing and very detailed. The sets are beautifully designed and the whole production fantastic. As well as all of the familiar songs we all know and love, yes I did sing along, there are a couple of new ones which have been written especially for the stage and fit in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lion King: If you only ever see one West End show... (629 words)

Transferring a show from the screen to the stage is risky. If you want to produce a major show in the West End, you won't see much change from £10 million. There is no guarantee of success, critical or popular, as the Lord of the Rings demonstrated. Turning The Lion King into a live show might, to the cynical, have seemed like the worst kind of band-wagon jumping. The combination of simple but engaging story-lines, likeable characters and perfect soundtrack have made the 1994 film one of the best-loved Disney animations. It won two Oscars and three Golden Globes and has taken over £100 million worldwide. Those are some big shoes to fill. The ...  Read the complete review
