Advantages: Central location, beautiful sets and costumes,
Disadvantages: Travel to London
The Lion King has established itself as one of the biggest west end shows in London. It is currently showing at the Lyceum Theatre.
Seeing the Lion King was one of the first west end shows I have seen in many years and it did not disappoint!! It is a great transfer from the disney classic film to the stage incorperating all of the music and action.
The costumes are amazing and very detailed. The sets are beautifully designed and the whole production fantastic.
As well as all of the familiar songs we all know and love, yes I did sing along, there are a couple of new ones which have been written especially for the stage and fit in seemlessly. The show is still aimed very much towards family entertainment with some adult humour thrown in particularly from scar and the bird.
The casting is great especially the young children who play the parts of Nala and Simba.
The show itself lasts for more than 2 and a half hours, although there is an intermission of 20 minutes, not really long enough to get through the queues for the toilets though! There are also refreshments available.
As you would expect there is plenty of merchandise available in the foyer including a cast recording of the show which gives a more personal memento of your experience. There was also some other interesting products such as wooden masks and colouring sets for the kids.
The price of the tickets was reasonable and there are discounts available for booking early or for the matinee performance.
Summary: Great for all ages, familiar songs, everyone will enjoy!

- 16/11/08 Sounds like it's definitely worth seeing! My daughters loved the little play they had in Disney for Lion King, I imagine they would be thrilled to see a real show :) |
