Advantages: recently renovated, good schedule, convenient

Disadvantages: slightly expensive?

I have great memories of the Empire - I've been to see pantomimes there every year since I was a child up until recently; my grandmother and my aunts would take me to see ballets when they were visiting; I've been to see both my aunts dancing there themselves, always dreaming of getting the chance to take the stage myself; and my last visit, to see "Joseph" at the christmas eve matinee a couple of years ago. I even got to visit backstage one year, when a relative was working with the visiting ballet company - what a difference back there in the cramped, tiny area, full of dancers smoking on the steps before they come out onto stage!

The Empire has recently been renovated. I haven't had a chance to visit since it has been "tarted up", but my grandmother described the new stage area as "beautiful". The theatre itself is still convenient from all directions, right next to Lime Street station, or a short walk from Central station, with bus stops right outside, and around 10-15 mins walk from the ferry.

Also, their generous ticket pricing offer means that any full-price paying adult can take a child with them for free. A good offer, which appears to result (in my experience so far) in an appreciative audience of awe-struck children, rather than a rowdy bunch of uninterested brats. :-)

November sees the coming of Copelia, which I, for one, would be sorry to miss.
