Advantages: Small, intimate theatre, quality shows

Disadvantages: Can you manage to sit through 'em?

The Library Theatre, located in the basement of the Library building in central Manchester, is a small theatre, and tends to have short seasons, or one-off performances from travelling companies.
I have been to a recent performance (Jackie Clune) and enjoyed it tremendously, but there was one big problem...
Over the Summer, the theatre was refurbished. So all looks very smart and pleasant, but the seats are extremely uncomfortable.
I'm not very tall, and don't have long legs, so I'm not unused to my feet not touching the floor, but it seemed that this is how it is for everyone, except maybe 6 ft tall men. Not only that, the chair backs don't allow you to sit back properly. The end result is back ache, especially if you have to sit for an hour and a half or so.
There were people there with obvious physical disabilities, one on crutches, and the staff couldn't give them anything better than one of only 2 low seats right at the back of the auditorium. Not very good when those people had expected to be sitting in a seat with a good view. The staff working on the night, it has to be said, were as helpful as they could be.
The main question is - who on earth designed those chairs?
If you care about your back, don't go to the Library Theatre until they've replaced them all.
