I went to the Royal and Derngate at the Weekend to atch Russell Howard, its the first time i've been sine the 'face lift' and it was very impressive. Parking is accessible and convenient for the theatre, there is a big multi storey about a 2 minute walk from the main entrance, it cost 80p to park there for a show ( as long as you don't arrive to early ) and there were not huge queues to get out at the end of the night. On entering the Derngate through the main entrance it is a lovely venue, very bright, very clean colours and enough space for everyone to mill around without feeling cramped. Well I went to the Derngate Royal Theatre (Northampton) for the first time on Saturday night to see Marti Pello in Witches of EastWick (see my reveiw on Marti Pello) and i must say i was really impressed. The staff were really friendly on the door who sold the programmes for eg. our four seats were alltogether but two of the seats were accessed from one entrance and the other two from another entrance which was another flights of stairs and two people in our party had medical problems (one has just had knee surgery and the other has bad feet) and they women was loverly and let us all go in the same door and told us not to worry and if any problems to let her ...

I haven't been to the theatre for quite a while now, especially in Northampton, but when Laurel & Hardy came to town I couldn't resist. The last time they were here was in 1953 (no I wasn't there to see it!) for a road safety campaign, an old and treasured black & white photo showing them holding a lollipop stick at the bottom of the towns Bridge Street, displayed in the Royal & Derngate reception area. I'm a big fan of these two. Their return to my hometown was in the form of an enjoyable ghostly stage show, recreating their back-story on the intimate stage of the Royal Theatre, the smaller half of Northampton's premier entertainment complex, ...
