PEPPA PIG
Peppa Pig is a childrens show seen on Channel Five Milkshake on weekday mornings and also on Sky's Nick Jr (the younger childrens version of channel from Nickolodean).
Peppa Pig is a young little girl pig who, alongside her family and friends, has fun, everyday, adventures such as going on picnics, going to ballet, a flood in her home town, starting school and so forth; all everyday things which young children can relate to.
ON STAGE
The stage show last only around one hour including a 15 minute break in the middle (which is well times for toilet breaks for young children!) and costs between £12.00-£15.00 per adult, with £2.00 off of the ticket price for under 15's. A family ticket starts at around £50-£60, though this might be different at other venues, I am not sure. Personally, I think that this is a little expensive, though it seems average for these kinds of shows.
The characters in the show are all huge puppets, operated by people wearing black. The puppets are really well made and their large stature is perfect for young children. Although you can easily see the humans working them, they perform their parts well and almost blend into the background. I think that it is mainly adults who see them as children are too engrossed in watching their favourite characters on stage.
Unfortunately, not all the characters from the television show are present on the stage which is a little upsetting for very young children as they wonder where on earth they are.
The show itself follows Peppa and her friends and family as they prepare for Peppa's birthday party, singing songs with actions which young children are invited to partake it and generally providing a lot of interactive entertainment to young children.
The set is simple yet effective and easily recognisable as the places seen in the television show.
OPINION
Firstly, I think that the cost of tickets is ridiculous! The adult prices alone are too high considering you are going only for the benefit of the child, and with a measly £2.00 off for little ones, I personally think this is extortionate! I know that these are average prices for shows such as this these days, though I would have expected a little more for the cost. Of course, the entry cost does not cover any merchandise your child may badger you for which are very expensive within themselves!
The show was very entertaining though I felt it was too short and it was very sad that they did not include all the characters! The songs with actions were a great way to get the children interacting with the show and the choices in songs were fun and easy for children to learn if they did not know them already.
My daughter loved it and she is three. We went with some friends who had children of the age of five and eight and the eight year old was bored stiff, so perhaps a good age range for this is between two to five
If the show had been bulked out a little bit more, then perhaps the price of the tickets would have been much more understandable, though personally, I would rather spend the money on a DVD of Peppa Pig and take my children to the new Peppa Pig world in a theme park as that, I feel, is more value for money! Peppa Pig Live UK Stage Tour

I took my three children to see this show in Reading theatre. It cost around £70 for the five of us but after reading the reviews I thought it must be worth it.
My children who at the time were 2 years 9 months, and twins of eighteen months. In short - they absolutely loved it! It was worth every penny to see their happy faces. One ... of my daughters, who is normally shy and quiet in front of people, was up dancing, clapping, pointing, and shouting out.
The act is done in two parts so that there is a short break half way through (time to buy merchandise, go to the toilet, grab a drink!) Each character was acted with a pupateer, which at first seems dissapointing (for the adults - the children didn't seem to mind a bit) but they all do such a good job. The story is Peppa's party and includes parts where you get to join in singing and dancing. Peppa makes a cake and goes on a 'hunt' which is taken from the bear hunt song but adapted to fit Peppa's story.
The only thing i would say is where is Rebecca Rabbit? I think she should be in the show too!
Summery - worth going to if your children love the tv show. I will be looking out for other shows for the children now because they loved this one so much! Read the complete review |

Peppa Pig live stage tour
As an early birthday present/Christmas present for our little one, we decided that the Peppa Pig live stage show would be a great hit as Peppa Pig, the fun-loving character from Nick Junior television, is a firm favourite in our house.
Ticket prices are quite high really for what this ... show actually is;
Tickets £12.50, £14.50
Family Ticket £50.00
Under 16 £2.00 off
I am unsure whether the prices differ depending upon what theatre you see this in, though from what I can see, this is average price in most places. Specific theatres may add some or take some depending on the economy at the time!
The show is only approximately one hour long with a short interval in the middle (so perhaps a 40 minute showing in all). This short a time is great for young children though is horrendous when you think of the money you have just spent for such a short time!
The show itself was not too bad. My little one loved it. It was the first time we had gone to anything like this and our youngster was transfixed and often danced to the songs, singing out loud along with the characters, which is completely encouraged in this stage show. I even found myself singing along to some well known songs from the programme!
The characters are large puppets which are operated by people who can be seen in plain clothes behind the large puppets at all times. This, to me, was very off-putting though my youngster didn't seem to even notice them and after a while, neither did I as they did a great job at blending in to the background in the way of becoming the character themselves. I don't really know what I had envisioned before I went, though it certainly was not this, though as an after though, I think this is possibly one of the better ways to portray these lovable characters. One little annoyance, though, and this is one for my little one and not really me, and that is the fact that many main characters from the television programme were missing. My youngster kept asking where certain characters were and was quite upset as they did not appear. This, I think, is a real shame.
Yes, the price is very high for what you actually get, though it is a very enjoyable show for young fans of the television programme. Read the complete review |
