Advantages: Loud, modern, upbeat musical, great show if you are not in to traditional musicals.
Disadvantages: If you don't already have one, you will have to buy a Queen cd to enjoy all over again!
I have been to see this show 4 times in 3 countries over the last few years and have loved it every time. I will be seeing it again in the touring version when it comes to Edinburgh this November.
The casting has been excellent in each version with outstanding singers. Queen's songs are not the easiest to cover but you will become so engrossed in the story and how they have woven the songs in it works!
The first time I saw it all I knew was it was written by Ben Elton, uses Queen's music and was set in the future. I think that is all you need to know - just be aware you are not going to see a tribute band type show. It uses Queen's music but it is very much a story. There are many laughs - this has been written by Ben Elton and you can almost hear him say some of the lines. He manages to have a dig about how we are heading to a point where all music must conform to a pattern (set by Simon Cowell) and that all bands must be beautiful.
There are some lovely tributes to past icons - singers who are no longer with us, which is woven in to the plot well and is quite touching. The main tributes are of course to Freddie Mercury, his legacy is used very cleverly as part of the plot.
If you enjoy Queen's music, you will love this show. It is loud, vibrant, funny, touching and really rocks! A great show if you are not in to traditional musicals as this is very much a modern day musical. The cheap seats are fine for this show as it is quite action packed and uses a lot of modern technology. In fact if you are too close you may miss out on some of the overall effects.
Summary: Great modern musical for anyone who has ever enjoyed a Queen song.
