This show is a classic. I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that 'West Side Story' changed the shape of the Broadway musical when it opened and it is this 1957 production that has been revived, or should I say recreated here, and is currently on national tour. But before I talk about that, a little background might be useful. LIke most successful musicals it is a re-wroking of something else; in this case Shakespeares' 'Romeo and Juliet'. They took grand themes such as love and conflict and transposed them into contemporary New York.
