Advantages: no queues, cheap to get in

Disadvantages: not enough rides, tatty and a bit dirty, no atmosphere

Seeing as though it was my 40th Birthday, my wife booked a weekend away for the two of us.
We went to Nottingham and stayed in a hotel. This was on the 3rd/4th of August, last weekend to be precise.

On the Saturday the sun was shining and we decided on a day out at The American Adventure Theme Park. We went trying not to compare it with the theme parks in America.
The entrance fee was a discounted £8.5o each seeing as though we had a voucher from the hotel. Normally it would cost £13.50 each without the voucher.

We got there about 10.15, the park opened at 10.00am, and there was hardly a car in sight on the car park.
We got through the gates straightway as there were no queues.
There were furry animals just past the gates waiting for people to have their photos taken with them.
They ignored us, which was unusual as in America, everybody has their photos took, oops there I go comparing.

After been given a map of the place, we set off to explore Alamo land.
There was the twin looper roller coaster. there wasn't a queue so off i popped leaving my scared wife behind. She won't go on the looping coasters.
The ride was ok, if not a little short. Obviously I was starting to compare other rides I'd been on, you can't help it.
Then we walked a little further on to watch people on the Skycoaster. This was where one to three people are strapped into a harness and are plummeted into the air off a very high tower.
You had to apy extra for this, I didn't bother.

There was a buffalo stampede ride, where you had to sit in carriages in the shape of buffalos. The carriages went up and down a track, similar to a rollercoaster but no where near as high as one.
We also gave this a miss.
My wife wanted to go through the adventure farm, what a joke that was.
There were a few Chipmunks in cages, a couple of rabbits and loads of hens and birds.
What a load of rubbish
, that's not what I call a farm.
There were loads of white doves which were flying round over your heads, my wife escaped quickly as she is scared of birds.

Next you come to an area where you are meant to be able to get something to eat or drink. nothing was open, they should have named it ghost town instead.
There were toilets though, they were ok, clean and had toilet roll.

We walked along the waters edge, this park is featured round a massive lake, we noticed a paddle boat waiting in the wings to transport people round the lake. we thought we would go back to that later.
There was a little train which you could go on , it took you from one end of the park to the other.

Next we came to Aztec kingdom, there were a couple of childrens rides there, the girl assistant was eagerly waiting customers, nobody came.
we went into the Amusement Arcade and had a quick game of air hockey, this cost a £1, and lasted about 5 minutes, not bad , I won again LOL.
Then we saw the Motion Master Cinema, this is more like it we thought.
we had been in these before, so we knew they were ok.
We went in along with about five other people. we only took up the first row and that was all who went in.
you get strapped into a moving chair, then a screen appears before you with a rollercoaster ride on.
You are transported through the movie with the actions of the chair tossing you all over the place. You feel as though you are on the coaster itself.
The only thing is i have seen this version about four times now and knew what to expect.
it can knock you a bit sick.

next we walked along to Silver City, this was ok, we saw a little show where there were people doing stunts on horses. There was a little sketch where they got a little boy out of the audience and made him the sherriff.
The hoseback riders were excellent though, doing dangerous stunts. if you stand too near the front be carefu
l as the horses fly past you and kick sand onto your clothes.
here is when it started to rain, good job we were under cover.
We then popped into a show called lazy Lil's. This was a saloon bar, we had a drink and watched showgirls dancing and singing.
don't sit too near the front if you don't want to be dragged up, they might make you wear a skirt!!

Further along was Fort St. lawrence, there wasn't much here for us, there were water rides but we don't like them. Who needs then when it's already raining!!
There were several burger bars and ice cream bars. We asked for a whippy ice cream but it wasn't working.
We quickly walked through that area and came along to Space Port USA, I headed for The Missile, probably the most exciting part of the attractions.
Here was a metal coaster with a loop and it went both forwards and backwards. The queuing time was nil, I went on and it lasted about two minutes. That was the best ride in the park.
Next we both went on cyberstorm, these were just Dodgems in the dark, you got to fire lazers at peoples cars.
It wasn't pitch black, you could see where you were going.
They were ok, sometimes if somebody bumped you it felt uncomfortable.
This was where the longest queue was and we only waited five minutes.

About 1.30 we decided on something to eat, we chose the Frisco Wharf which just past Alamo land.
The building looked Colonnial something like you would see in America.
There were only two people eating in there.
I picked up a tray and put it down again, they were all dirty.
My wife went along to the refrigerated section and chose a salad, I got steak Pie, chips , peas and carrots. I tried to get a milkshake and the machine wasn't working.
We chose two cokes instead, altogether it came to £9.00. My wife left most of the salad, she said it was too bland, my chips were soggy, the carrots were well overdone.

Still better than a burger, we thought.

Later on in the day, we went and had a go at winning one of the massive cuddly toys.
They were even letting you have a game for half price. The games started at about £1.00. My wife won a Digimon or something, but then again everybody left with a prize.
We saw people who had won enormous snakes and Wizzards.

We left about 3.0clock as the weather was getting worse, and we were getting bored.
We would have looked around the few shops if they had been open.
Talking to a taxi driver later, he said the park was really struggling.
no wonder we thought, in areas it was dirty, tatty and need a good paint.

For people unfortunate not to have visited America, this might seema decent park, but I'm sorry the Yanks have got it just right.

That brings back the memories, cheers. I haven't been there in ages but I used to go a lot, it was really good. It seems from what you've written however, it might have gone downhill in recent years.

Good detailed op. Not a big fan of theme parks, but the other half is!

As we live close to the American Adventure I keep meaning to go. I still think we will as my children would enjoy it. I do not think anyone pays full price!
