Advantages: Cheap, Short queue, good day out
Disadvantages: Not many scary rides, not suitable for couples
I visited The American Adventure theme park on Sunday 6th May 2002. The park is located Ilkeston Derbyshire. The weather was good. The park was empty, with Monday being bank holiday I was expecting more people. You could get on the rides with less then five minutes waiting. We got to the park at 9:55. I parked my car and waited for the main gates to open. The gates opened at 10:00am it was going to take another 15 mins before we got in, since we had vouchers for the park we got into the park straight away. It would be better if the gates open earlier and the rides started at 10am. Waiting for people to pay by cash/credit card takes time. Every year for the last few years around Feb/March The Daily/Sunday Mirror newspaper have offers where you collect vouchers from the newspaper. You then get entrance to theme parks for free. The American Adventure park has appeared on the list every year. The total cost for the newspaper vouchers and postage cost me about £5 for that I got seven vouchers One for American Adventure, Legoland and Drayton Manor Park. Two vouchers for Sea Life and Dungeon and Dragons. That is excellent value for money. Directions Get off at Junction 26 of the M1. You will have to travel about six miles from the motorway to get to the park. There are signposts for the park from the motorway. Look out for the many speed cameras as you travel to the park. rd, May 7th to May 31st and June 10th to June 21st) The park has six areas Alamo, Waterfront, Aztec Kingdom, Silver City, Forth St. Lawrence and USA Space Port. Some rides do have height restriction. If you are looking for white knuckle rides/scary you will not find many. There is a train moving around the park. The train has stops in all the areas. The area has a lake in the middle. Alamo Main rides in this area are twin looper ( 360 degrees twin loop rollercoaster), Buffalo Stampede (good family rollercoaster where carriages move on the tracks and does not reach any major heights) and Skycoaster (upto three people are strapped into a harness and are plummeted into the air from a very high tower) . The Skycoaster is scary it will cost you extra £5 each if there is three of you or £7.50 each if only two. Waterfront Main rides Yankee clipper (pirateship). Has a few rides ideal for children. Mississippi Boat Terminus (is a boat taking around the lake) Pedaloes (Paddle steamer riding on water) Aztec Kingdom Motion Master Cinema (you get strapped into a chair and film starts, get the thrills of rides without sitting on one). This area has few rides for children. Silver city The Wild West rodeo show was excellent. People riding horses doing stunts. The show lasts for 25 mins. Some of the tricks performed were very good. Nightmare Niagara (longfum is a good ride not really scary). The runaway train (This ride is very good mainly due to the speed the carriages around the tracks) Forth ST. Lawrence Ballon ride is a family ride (you many feel dizzy because you are going around in a circle). Rocky Mountain Ride (Sits upto 12 people good laugh, nothing to be scared about you only get wet) USA Space Port The Missile (This must be the best ride on the whole park. Top grade white knuckle ride. The rollercoaster with loops moves forward and then backwards. When movi
ng backwards it does make you excited). Supakarts (you have to pay extra £2.75 for the ride). Starbase slide (is good fun when you race down with your friends). Cyberstorm (bumping cars in the dark). Driving School is a good for children. This park may not be on the same level as it’s close neighbour Alton Towers. The rides are simple and exciting. The queues for the rides are none existence The Missile and the twin looper rides I walked on without having to queue. You can leave you lunch in the car and at dinnertime have a picnic on the lawn. The car park is close to the entrance. The park was kept clean. There are many toilets, which are clean. If you do not like white knuckle rides this park could be ideal for you. More suited for the family. Could do with more children rides. I will go again since I had a great time.
