Advantages: Your get to see animals in their close natural habitat, hands on expreiences
Disadvantages: Very Expensive, Unhappy Animals, A bit False
Over the last few years we have watched the building going on at the site of the new Animal Kingdom, all the hype and build up through local advertising in Florida and also here in the UK....then they opened the park 1999, however, as we go to Florida most years we don't normally do Disney unless we have friends or Family with us, but we did decide on spending almost $100 (£65)(for two of us) plus $5 car parking to see Animal Kingdom .. I have to say my first impression was that it looked interesting, we we greeted at the gate by wardens (actors) with small insects and various animals in cages, also actors in various safari themed costumes walking around on stilts... As is typical for Disney there were loads of expensive shops selling Film, cameras, overpriced Souvenirs etc... we picked up a guide sheet and tried to follow a logical path around the park so that we could take in as much as possible in a day ( not intending to return for a second day!!).. The Safari was a typical Disney Theatre, an actress drove us around on a open minibus all done up to look like a safari truck, she followed a set path with a set script pointing out animals en route that although cared for ( Disney style) did not look all that happy or comfortable to my eye.. We then managed to catch the safari train for a well earned and welcome ride ( also to rest the feet !!), we saw a side show about Birds of Prey ( which was quite interesting) and got to meet quite a few various Birds of Prey in real life...I managed to pass all the various Restaurants selling themed food either on a sit in or to go ( Take out) basis all quite expensive..... Eventually we saw the famous 'Tree of Life' in all its plastic glory...trouble is it looked plastic which by Disney standards was a bit of a shock, normally Disney go all out on the effects...I wasn't impressed, and didn't feel that I had got $100 worth of day out...there are some terrifi
c parks in Florida who give you as much if not more and are far superior... I did not think that the animals we saw looked particulary happy or content.... I would have prefered to have gone back to Busch Gardens, Sea World or one of the Gulf Coast Zoo's, some of whom are excellent and charge around £15 admission....Disney is really great at Themed Parks like the Epcot Centre which I absolutley adore, and go to see every year...but Animal Kingdom !!!, sorry I wasn't overkeen nor for the record was my wife .....
