Advantages: No queues, good for kids
Disadvantages: disabled access, value for money
It was suggested to me to visit the Blue Planet Aquarium and with it not being far from home we decided to go one Sunday morning. My fella is always getting me up early so we can spend the day at wherever we are going.
Situated near Cheshire Oaks Outlet Mall, the Blue Planet is signposted and very easy to get to from the main roads.
Upon arrival we went inside to a large foyer and although it was very busy there were no queues to actually get in which was a bonus. \it cost £10 each for two adults for admission to the aquarium.
The place itself is clearly signposted to the different attractions however we found it difficult to find the restaurant and toilets which at the end of the day they are making a lot of money out of the restaurant too and i would have thought that these should be clearly marked to tempt people into going in and purchasing food and beverages.
The restaurant itself was a very tight squeeze with wooden tables and chairs too close together making it hard for people with wheelchairs and pushchairs to get through. The food itself was very expensive and they didn't actually serve anything healthy realy it was all burgers, hotdogs and chips, however we ate and wish we hadn't as it tasted terrible. The staff were very slow at serving and also clearing tables after people have eaten, which was very unhygienic.
The attractions itself.. some were very good especially the underwater tunnel where you can see sharks and stingrays swimming over your head and also the lecture room which included a large tank with diplays of the staff swimming with the sharks.
Eveything else really were just various different types of fish tanks that you could walk round but it was hard to get through and people didn't want to move to let other people see what is going on. Really i could have visited our local garden centre and payed £2 each to see nearly just at much.
It took just over an hour and half to go round the attractions and also have an awful lunch so for a £50 day out inclusive of admission, food and fuel for two people really isn't worth the while.
Summary: Save your Money

scuba_angel - 07/12/07 Surely you dont go to these places to talk about the restaurant? More information on the fish/attractions would be helpful, and from my visits there are plenty of fish there you wont find in a garden centre (not seen many sharks in my local garden centre recently) and if you go there at a weekend you have to expect it to be busy since its a family attraction and indoors these places have very little quiet time. |
