Start with a leisurely idle down our natural canal and experience the excitement of viewing exotic birds, turtles and the Florida alligator in their own natural environment. Fly like the wind into the swamps experiencing the awesome feel of the airboat ride traveling at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Boggy Creek Airboat Rides - where you can exprience the beautiful Central Florida Everglades. „
Boggy Creek air boat ride is located in Orlando Florida about a 30 minutes drive from Walt Disney World. Here you will board a fan propelled air board and head out on tot he Florida wetlands and in hunt to see birds, turtles and the famous Florida alligator. The boat can travel up to 45 miles per hour over water reads or mud. You can choose from 3 different options. A 30 minutes normal ride which runs all year round and departs every 30 minutes for $25, a 1 hour night ride for $43 or a private 45 minutes tour for $50 (All prices are per person)
I did the normal ride in May and it was fantastic. The sun was shining, sky was blue and I was flying across the waters. It was the perfect time to ride as we got to see baby alligators swimming through the water as well as adults. We also got to see an American eagle sitting on the site on the bank.
The guide was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the animals. I would highly recommend the ride.
As a tip I would advise to take bug spray with you.
If your in Orlando and looking for something different to the normal theme parks then a visit to Boggy creek airboats is a must! I ahve been to Florida about 15 or so times now and have been fortunate enough to do an airboat ride in the everglades aswell in a few other locations. I have to say that honestly Boggy Creek beat them all hands down!
Firstly if you want to do this you need a car! Our hotel tried to convince me it was only a 20 minute taxi ride! Hmm...not sure where they were sending me as it was more like 45 minutes from door to door! Its in the middle of no where so a car is the best option.
When you arrive they may try to talk you into a "private" airboat ride as they leave straight away and will have one guide for just your party. However in my opinion its not worth the extra - we waited about 10 minutes longer and only had 1 other group of 6 with us.
You get on the boat and the guide tells you abit about the area, what they hope to see, safety etc. If you ahve any loose hats or anything - definately worth hanging on to these! Once the boat starts going it is very loud so you'll have nice headphones to put over your ears.
The guide will stop to show you anything of interest - we saw some buffalo, lots of alligators (including baby ones) racoons, bald eagles and much more. I found our guide to be very friendly and extremely knowledgeable.
I cant remember how much we paid (about $20 a person i think plus tip) but it was well worth every penny! The ride is about 30 minutes long and its best to get there as early as possible.
Also dont forget your bug spray! as around the water there were hundreds of bugs!
I have always had a great yearning to visit the Florida Everglades and travel on an airboat. However as my family and I are Theme Park addicts we never seemed to have been able to afford the time for the journey to the Everglades. However before our last trip I read a guidebook which said that Boggy Creek Airboats were as good an experience as the Everglades. I don't know if this is true but I can give you a review of our trip.
There are quite a lot of Airboat companies operating around the Orlando area. I did some research before we travelled and I found the best recommendations, especially for safety, were for the Boggy Creek Company so that was where we headed.
The Boggy Creek Airboat company have been in business since 1994 and now run at two sites in Orlando. There is one at the East Lake Fish Camp and then there is one at South Park Road. When we visited the Fish camp was closed for refurbishment so we had to travel about 20miles to the Southpark road site. However I have heard that this does tend to have better wildlife so is worth the extra drive. The place opened at 9 and we arrived early as we had heard that is when you can see the most wildlife (except for nighttime).
When we arrived there was free parking and you had to go into the gift shop to buy the tickets. It was $25 for adults and children under 11 were $19 , we paid slightly less than this as we had vouchers that gave us a discount. (Voucher books can be picked up at any hotel or diner.) The staff were lovely and engaged my son in converstaion and showed him a joke bag of rattlesnake eggs which he thought was great fun.
The rides run every half an hour, this time starts from when the first customers arrive so you should never have to wait longer than 30 minutes. We were shown to our airboat which can seat up to 17 passengers. They cannot take wheelchairs on board but if a person can transfer they will do their best to accomodate their needs. Every passenger is given ear protectors which you have to wear all the time the engine is running as the noise is INCREDIBLE! Children under 6 must wear lifejackets and everyone else is told where the lifejackets are. You really need to wear glasses to protect your eyes from insects and waterspray, there were some people on our boat that spent the whole journey with their eyes closed as things kept blowing into them!
The airboat left the dock quite slowly and I was beginning to be disappointed but then the captain told us that there was a speed restriction near the lake shore. Once we got out into more open water the boat travels upto 45mph. The captain was very knowledgable. Every now and then he stopped the boat (so we could take off the ear-protectors and hear what he was saying!) and pointed out things to us. We saw a couple of alligators that I would never have spotted lurking amongst the grass. We also saw a Golden eagle which was very impressive and lots of water fowl. The lake is surrounded by cypress trees, it is a truely beautiful and incredible peaceful place (when the engines aren't running). Skimming quickly through the long grass was exhilarating. Unfortunately it began to rain on our trip which meant we couldn't see quite as much and the rain actually HURT when you were travelling fast!
When we got off the boat we were sent out via a "photo opportunity" spot where they let you handle a baby alligator and you could buy a photo as a donation to their protection fund. I usually find these things really annoying but actually the handler was very informative and there was no hassle. Both of my children held the alligator (I declined!) and when I said I didn't want the photo there was no hard sell and we were pleasently wished a nice day in true US fashion.
It is possible to go on Night rides but these have to be pre-booked. There are also 6 seater airboats which you can hire as a private excursion. It is wise to cover yourself in insect repellant before you go. We wore shorts which meant even though it rained we could just brush the water off and its much more comfortable than wet trousers! I felt that the whole operation was based on safety and although my son was scared to death at the start of going on an alligator he had such a good time he wants to do it again! I would certainly recommend this to anyone tarvelling to Orlando and my only regret is that I hadn't done it before!
I have visited Orlando Florida for many years, and I have to say I was getting rather bored with the same tourist attractions, like Disney and the theme parks. Although these are great fun you can't help but think that Orlando must have more to offer.
On my last visit we fell upon the Boggy creek airboat trips, it was by pure chance we found this place, we were on the way to epcot theme park and it was on the way so we decided to stop and check it out.
The Boggy Creek Airboat trip is an airboat ride that helps you explore Florida's everglades, we drove slowly through the everglade swamps looking for wildlife and taking in the scenery.
We only got a small glimpse at the well know alligator, but our tour guide said we took our trip at the busiest time, so the wild life was disturbed by all of the boats.
He told us that the early morning of the night trip was the best to see all the wild life at its best, although we did see some alligators and birds. If we went during the quite times we could have encountered bald eagles and even turtles.
This trip lasted half an hour although we got about 40 minutes as the guides wanted us to see more, the first half of the trip was slowly taking in scenery and animals, and the second half was spent zooming around the swamp on the air oat at roughly 45 MPH.
I really loved this park of the trip and to be honest is was the best bit, as I see I once you have seen an alligator you've seen an alligator.
I have to say I really enjoyed the trip as it showed me a whole new side to Orlando, other than the normal theme parks.
The whole trip cost us $45.90 plus tax, for two adults.
Children over 3 $17.95.
This was for the day trip, I think the night trip may cost you a little bit more, I would advise you try it.
I have to say this was the highlight of my trip, I found it truly fantastic, as I didn't even know that orlando had everglade swamps, I just assumed it was only Miami that had this sort of thing.
If you are ever in Orlando and have a spare few hours I would really give this a go, even for the 45MPH hair raising zip around the swamp would do it for me.
Have you ever wanted to visit Florida's everglades? If this is the trip for you. On one of my many visits to Florida, I took the boggy creek air boat trip. This has got to be one of the best moments of my life, although I hate the thought of alligators, they frighten the life out of me. I gritted my teeth and went for it, am I am very pleased that I did.
The Boggy Creek Airboat Ride experience is an airboat ride through Florida's everglades, boating slowly through the wetlands of the everglade swamps and taking in the surrounding scenery, and the amazing wildlife the everglades had to offer. The wildlife included alligators, bald eagles, exotic birds and turtles in their own natural habitat.
If that wasn't enough the boat driver then opened up to boat, so you seemed to be zipping over the water at extreme speed, although it was only travelling at 45 miles per hour it did seem to be a lot faster.
We took the tour in the morning so we were the only people at the swamp, therefore the water was a lot calmer and you could see the wild life. The tour guide told us that this was the best time to come as you got to see all of the wildlife the everglades had to offer, as they were not frightened.
When it is busy of the water is constantly rippled by one of boggy creeks 17 passenger airboats, so the wildlife is frightened off excluding the gator, you will always be able to catch a look at these.
In my opinion Boggy Creek Airboat trips are by far the best way to experience the beautiful Florida Everglades.
The Boggy Creek Airboat Company runs three different trips, so you can choose which one would suit you the best.
Trip one, you boat captain will show you breathtaking beauty of natural wonders, including wetlands, cypress trees, and wildlife including Alligators, turtles, birds and more in their natural environment. This safe, exciting and educational airboat ride is filled with surprises and fascination.
Trip two, This Airboat Tour is for those who want adventure and thrills and are not afraid of the dark. Search the thrilling swamps for the intimidating Florida Alligator. Watch the alligators glide across the marsh seeking their next prey.
The night tours are seasonal, so I colder months these may not run. If you decide on this night tour the tips will run from 9.00pm till 10.00pm. There is a minimum of 6 people to book a night tour. If there is not 6 in your party you will be added to another group.
Trip three is a forty five minute boating tour around the everglades, this trip is designed for you to have a personal tour with just you and your friends. This is a great way to see wildlife with your own captain and private 6 passenger airboat.
The prices are very reasonable throughout the year, these are the prices we were quoted when we did our trip.
Trip one the 30 minute tour, costs adults $22.95, children over 3 $17.95 and it is FREE for children under 2.
Trip two night tour, costs adults $34.95 children over 3 $29.95 and FREE for children under 2 years old.
Trip three private 45 minute tour, costs $45.00 per person.
(These prices are in dollars so with the exchange rate today you can expect to pay roughly half of these prices)

boggy creek airboat tours has two diffrent start points, both of which are only a few miles away from the disney resorts, so they are very easy to get to.
Boggy creek provides life vests, hearing protection and safety glasses.
I would highly recommend you dress in warm clothes even in the warmer months. Dress warmer than you are comfortable since it is typically at least 10 degrees cooler on the water and in the wind.
Cameras are allowed to be taken on board at your own risk, this is due to the light water spray.
Each boat is handicapped accessible.
Each airboat is safe and fully inspected by the U.S and airboat tour is a unique experience and never be the same twice. You will enjoy whisking across the surface of the water at speeds up to 45 mph while shooting between walls of tall grass.
Watch out an alligator may eat you, only joking.
We "loved" the Boggy Creek Airboat Rides experience. Dispelling all the misconceptions, the Florida Everglades headwaters begin just 30-40 mins south from the Disney area, which is where Boggy Creek Airboats are located. We showed up early one morning (when unbeknown to us in advance the wildlife is at its most active), and literally walked straight on - no queueing. 30-40 min ride across the swamp and lakes, we saw alligators, all kinds of birdlife including bald eagles, and most of all, it was a relaxed morning out away from the hussle and bustle of the major theme parks. We'd recommend it to everyone.
