Advantages: Cheap trip, fantastic animals.

Disadvantages: only lasts 30 minutes to an hour.

Have you ever wanted to visit Florida's everglades? If this is the trip for you. On one of my many visits to Florida, I took the boggy creek air boat trip. This has got to be one of the best moments of my life, although I hate the thought of alligators, they frighten the life out of me. I gritted my teeth and went for it, am I am very pleased that I did.

THE TRIP

The Boggy Creek Airboat Ride experience is an airboat ride through Florida's everglades, boating slowly through the wetlands of the everglade swamps and taking in the surrounding scenery, and the amazing wildlife the everglades had to offer. The wildlife included alligators, bald eagles, exotic birds and turtles in their own natural habitat.

If that wasn't enough the boat driver then opened up to boat, so you seemed to be zipping over the water at extreme speed, although it was only travelling at 45 miles per hour it did seem to be a lot faster.

We took the tour in the morning so we were the only people at the swamp, therefore the water was a lot calmer and you could see the wild life. The tour guide told us that this was the best time to come as you got to see all of the wildlife the everglades had to offer, as they were not frightened.

When it is busy of the water is constantly rippled by one of boggy creeks 17 passenger airboats, so the wildlife is frightened off excluding the gator, you will always be able to catch a look at these.

In my opinion Boggy Creek Airboat trips are by far the best way to experience the beautiful Florida Everglades.

TRIPS

The Boggy Creek Airboat Company runs three different trips, so you can choose which one would suit you the best.

Trip one, you boat captain will show you breathtaking beauty of natural wonders, including wetlands, cypress trees, and wildlife including Alligators, turtles, birds and more in their natural environment. This safe, exciting and educational airboat ride is filled with surprises and fascination.

Trip two, This Airboat Tour is for those who want adventure and thrills and are not afraid of the dark. Search the thrilling swamps for the intimidating Florida Alligator. Watch the alligators glide across the marsh seeking their next prey.

The night tours are seasonal, so I colder months these may not run. If you decide on this night tour the tips will run from 9.00pm till 10.00pm. There is a minimum of 6 people to book a night tour. If there is not 6 in your party you will be added to another group.

Trip three is a forty five minute boating tour around the everglades, this trip is designed for you to have a personal tour with just you and your friends. This is a great way to see wildlife with your own captain and private 6 passenger airboat.

PRICES

The prices are very reasonable throughout the year, these are the prices we were quoted when we did our trip.

Trip one the 30 minute tour, costs adults $22.95, children over 3 $17.95 and it is FREE for children under 2.

Trip two night tour, costs adults $34.95 children over 3 $29.95 and FREE for children under 2 years old.

Trip three private 45 minute tour, costs $45.00 per person.

(These prices are in dollars so with the exchange rate today you can expect to pay roughly half of these prices)

ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS

Lake Tohopekaliga is the headwaters to the Florida Everglades, known as one of the world's greatest treasures. Whether you start your airboat adventure at the beginning of the waterway or any place in between you will witness some of the most spectacular natural areas.

You will definitely see a whole different side of Orlando in the back water swamps. Stop along the way to ask questions, take pictures and get a up close and personal ride that your holiday will never be the same without.

BOOKING

The airboat tours are very popular so it is best to book, especially during the peak season, during off peak season you can just go along.

For night tours bookings are required. You will need to provide your credit card information to reserve these tours, but your credit card will not be charged unless you do not arrive or make a cancellation at least 24 hours in advance.

boggy creek airboat tours has two diffrent start points, both of which are only a few miles away from the disney resorts, so they are very easy to get to.

OTHER INFORMATION

Boggy creek provides life vests, hearing protection and safety glasses.

I would highly recommend you dress in warm clothes even in the warmer months. Dress warmer than you are comfortable since it is typically at least 10 degrees cooler on the water and in the wind.

Cameras are allowed to be taken on board at your own risk, this is due to the light water spray.

Each boat is handicapped accessible.

Each airboat is safe and fully inspected by the U.S and airboat tour is a unique experience and never be the same twice. You will enjoy whisking across the surface of the water at speeds up to 45 mph while shooting between walls of tall grass.

Watch out an alligator may eat you, only joking.

Summary: great day out for extreme views and stunning wildlide.

This is the only thing in Florida that really appeals to me. Why anyone would want to go to a theme park when you could do something like this is beyond me!
